The post holder will demonstrate a high level of expertise within the Bladder and Bowel Care Service providing advice, education and support to staff, patients, their families and carers.
The post holder will support new ways of working that emphasises a more efficient and patient focused service, and will ensure the safe treatment, referral and discharge of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed presentations in their area.
Responsibility for leading the on-going development of clinical practice and standards of care within the service, including the development of policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines in collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues
The post holder will deliver clinical components to their role as well as components related to appraisal, clinical audit, teaching, continuous professional development and research.

1. Work autonomously as an advanced practitioner within the bladder and bowel care service, managing a caseload of patients delivering individualised direct patient care.
2. Direct responsibility for assessment, examination, investigation and diagnosis of patients within their area of work.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To be accountable for the introduction and implementation of Trust policies in an effective manner within Bladder & Bowel, and to monitor adherence to the policies.
To effectively control and manage the allocated budget for the Bladder & Bowel team including funding for staffing, equipment, and education, and authorise time sheets, staff travel and training expenses claims, petty cash, and requisitions. This includes managing budgets and perusing /writing business cases in consultation with line management/ contracts /finance departments.
To agree objectives and monitor performance targets for the Bladder & Bowel service and for staff through PTL and RiO.
To be responsible for the Health and Safety of the teams, ensuring that the working environment and all necessary procedures are in place to minimise risk and that the risk register is kept up to date. To report risks identified and ensure that Trust Incident Reporting procedures are followed.
To lead on the recruitment and retention strategy for the teams. To be responsible for the recruitment and selection of staff within Speciality services and to participate and advice on the recruitment and selection.
To delegate duties and responsibilities to senior team members appropriately and in a supportive manner taking into account own workload, their workload and their development needs.
To be accountable for all staff within the Bladder & Bowel team under your management attending mandatory training.
To work with clinicians and staff to implement the Trust Clinical Strategic Direction in order to continuously improve the quality and timeliness of services to enhance the patient’s experience, reduce waiting times and minimise inefficiencies.
To identify both new opportunities for the service, arising from changes in the external environment or internal innovation and potential threats and ways to respond to them.
To be proactively involved in developing Care Pathways, either by offering expert professional advice or by leading on the development and implementation of amended processes or practices within the bladder & Bowel team. This may involve developing new roles for staff and addressing the clinical governance and development needs associated with this.
Working closely with the finance team, NHS Supply Chain, HDS and other key stakeholders to reduce the spend on pads by providing alternative options and streamlining the process and pathways for pads.
