About
Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) officially attained Teaching Hospital status on 1st April 2020; this is the start of our ambition to achieve University Teaching Hospital status. Supported by Edge Hill University, the University of Bolton and the University of Central Lancashire, with approval from regulators NHS Improvement/England and the Department of Health and Social Care, from the 1st April 2020, the Trust will now be known as Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (WWL).
Attaining Teaching Hospital status enables WWL to further enhance education and training capacity, grow research capability and improve the recruitment and retention of high quality staff across all professions. Ultimately, this will result in a positive impact on the quality of care and outcomes for patients.

We are looking to recruit dynamic and flexible Band 5 Scrub Practitioners. at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS teaching Hospital, you will be rewarded with real job satisfaction as confirmed by our employee surveys. Our driving force is our ability to invest in our people, as we support our Theatre Nurses and ODPs to build their skills through mentoring and formal training such as ALS, and PLS.
The role involves working a rota pattern across 7 days Monday - Sunday, including days and nights.
Please note although this post is fixed term, there is a possibility it may become permanent in the future.

Spread over three sites Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh cover both acute and elective surgery with a wide procedure portfolio .
Across our three theatre sites teams work closely with some of the region's leading consultants and are exposed to the latest innovative, evidence -based clinical techniques, on our Wigan site we have our integrated laparoscopic theatre our Wrightington site have investing a surgical robot and our Leigh site is currently expanding to four operating theatres.
Here on the Wigan site we undertake adult and paediatric elective and emergency surgery, with Wrightington and Leigh focusing on elective adult surgery.
This vacancy is open to all internal and external candidates. Please note all candidates could be asked to work at another Trust site as required.

The post holder will demonstrate effective communication and organisation awareness levels by:

- Working closely with own team, theatre co-ordinator, senior team leader and matron/theatre manager to promote good work relationships with all members of the multidisciplinary team.

Responsibility for Finance
The post holder will participate in:
- Contributing to the effective and efficient utilization of theatre resources identifying shortfalls and liaising with senior team leader / theatre co-ordinator.
- Participate in ensuring the effective use of all financial resources in providing and delivering the service
- Demonstrate awareness of the need for Cost Improvement Programmes within the service

The post holder will be responsible for:
- Adhere to Trust policies and maintenance of the professional Code of Conduct.

Responsibility for Health & Safety
Compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 – the post holder is required to fulfil a proactive role towards the management of risk in all of their actions. This entails the risk assessment of all situations, the taking of appropriate actions and reporting of all incidents, near misses and hazards, and a statutory duty of care for their own personal safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions.
Maintaining consistency within standards of care for both elective and emergency care.
- Ensuring that all work is carried out in a safe manner with due regard to the Health and safety regulations.
