Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research.

Job overview
The Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology (DMFR) department is seeking fixed term full-time (10PA) Specialty Dentist to join a dynamic, enthusiastic and forward-thinking team. The department is currently involved in many exciting initiatives and are looking for an individual(s) with appropriate skills to complement this team and help keep the service in the forefront of clinical and academic excellence.
The post holder(s) will be expected to show drive and initiative towards patient care putting the patient first. They will be based within the Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology services and may be asked to undertake a range of treatments including: cone beam CT reporting and ultrasound which will initially include training and direct supervision by the team of DMFR consultants). There is a drive to work towards more use of digital technology and the post holder would be expected to help drive this forwards.

Job Plan
Your job plan is anticipated to contain 10 Programmed Activities per week on average to be carried out at both Guy’s and St Thomas’ sites. This is an outline programme and you will be expected to discuss and agree a detailed job plan including your personal and professional objectives with your Clinical Lead within 3 months of your start date.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Provide High Quality Care to Patients
The post holder(s) must:
· Be dentally qualified, be on the GDC’s list and hold a licence to practice.
· Develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.
· Ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care Programmed Activities.
· Ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.
Research, Teaching and Training
The post holder(s) must be able to:
· Collaborate with academic and clinical colleagues to enhance the Trust’s translational research portfolio, at all times meeting the full requirements of Research Governance.
· Provide high quality teaching to dental undergraduates and members of other health care professions as required by the Clinical Director.
Performance Management
The post holder(s) is expected to:
· Work with dental, nursing and managerial colleagues to ensure high performance in the following areas:
· Ensure clinical efficiency e.g. reducing cancelled operations and DNA rates.
· Optimise quality of outcomes e.g. infection control targets, improving patient experience
· Contribute to financial management e.g. identification, implementation and achievement of cost improvement programmes and participating in efforts to ensure services are provided cost effectively e.g. ensuring accuracy of clinical data for the team.
· Optimise operational efficiency e.g. waiting list activity and demand management.
Governance
The post holder must:
· Review clinical outcomes in designated area using external benchmarking data where appropriate, to identify and advise variances to the Clinical Director.
· Participate in clinical audit, incident reporting and analysis and to ensure resulting actions are implemented.
· Work closely with the Directorate, Patient and Public Involvement panels in relation to clinical and services developments as delegated by the Clinical Director.
· Participate in ensuring NICE requirements are reviewed and implemented and monitored in the speciality areas.
· Ensure clinical guidelines and protocols are adhered to by junior dental staff and updated on a regular basis.
· Keep fully informed about best practice in the speciality areas and ensure implications for practice changes are discussed with the Clinical Director.
· Role model good practice for infection control to all members of the multidisciplinary team.
