Job overview
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated Highly Specialist Cognitive Behavioural Therapist to join Durham and Darlington Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service at an exciting time of service transformation. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the clinical leadership team across our Getting Help Services including the Getting Help Team and Mental Health Support Teams in Schools. You will provide direct clinical work with children, young people and their families alongside supervision, consultation and training to other members of the team and play a key role in continuing to develop integrated working within the service. Applicants should have significant experience of delivering psychological informed interventions to children experiencing a range of mental health problems. Additionally, applicants must already be qualified in cognitive behavioural therapy and accredited with BABCP and also qualified / trained in clinical supervision. We take our staff development needs seriously and upon starting in the service we will work together with you on your CPD needs. Within the Psychological Professions we have a strategic approach to developing staff and have a range of opportunities for individual development.

The post holder will be expected to have the necessary skills and experience to undertake direct clinical work with children and families, provide clinical supervision, advice, consultation and training to other members of the service, and will play a key role in continuing to develop the multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working of the team. Service development ideas and innovation in the role are encouraged and welcomed. The successful candidate will be under the support and guidance of a Consultant Psychologist within the wider CAMHS service.
Working for our organisation
The post will cover Durham and Darlington CAMHS Getting Help Services including the Getting Help Team and Mental Health Support Teams in Schools. Experience of working with young people and families is important, as well as the ability to work effectively within the multi-disciplinary team and with our multi-agency partner organisations. We are keen to support the ongoing development of psychological professionals through training and CPD opportunities. The post holder will receive regular supportive supervision and work closely with colleagues from across the Psychological Professions in CAMHS and the wider Trust.
There is a well-established and supportive Psychological Professions Network within the wider Durham and Darlington Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services supported by a highly motivated team of professional leads and senior managers. Strong links exist between the service and local training courses in clinical psychology, counselling psychology and psychological therapy. Psychological Therapy is highly valued within the Trust with good professional support. Leadership skills and behaviours are integral to the recruitment process. The Trust is a strongly value based, person centred organisation which has taken a strategic approach to continued service improvement, the modernisation of clinical roles and the use of care pathways embedded within a functioning system of governance.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Please see the attached job description and person specification which outlines the main duties and responsibilities of the role. The postholder will provide behavioural and cognitive psychological interventions to children with a range of mental health difficulties. They will work within a multidisciplinary team, carry their own caseload and provide expert supervision within the CBT framework. They will undertake risk assessment and risk management and provide advice and support to carers / families about a client’s care and management of presenting problems. They will also be expected to provide senior clinical leadership and service development across all aspects of the service. Essential criteria
- Full and current Frist accreditation with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).
- Additional training and evidence of competencies in delivering and supervising Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for the area of speciality i.e. that this is specific to the role (CAMHS, EIP, SMHP, etc).
- Experienced in providing clinical supervision in accordance with BABCP guidance within the relevant service area in which the post holder will be working.

- Substantial experience post qualification (PGDip) of delivering Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in assessment, formulation, treatment and supervision of formal CBT within the speciality/ service area.
- Experience of assessing and managing risk for clients who present with high levels of likelihood of self harm/ harm to others.
- Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care within the context of a multidisciplinary team.
