Job overview
Are you a senior/ highly specialist or Principal family & systemic psychotherapist, currently working in CAMHS or Acute Adult Services, and looking for a challenge in working in a new intensive support specialist service, inpatient and community, based at Chalkhill.
We are seeking to recruit an experienced and creative Principal family & systemic psychotherapist (8B) to work within the CAMHS Acute Care pathway. You will be providing interventions for young people and families needing an inpatient admission and be involved in an exciting new development of the intensive support specialist 7 day a week service, as an alternative to inpatient admission for Children and Young People experiencing acute mental health difficulties.
You will be part of developing the service to give children and young people living in Sussex a more appropriate and integrated range of services to meet their clinical needs. As the Principal family & systemic psychotherapist you will be part of the leadership and clinical team to ensure that young people and their families receive timely, targeted assessment and effective family & systemic interventions.
You will be a member of the leadership team and ensure service delivery and evaluation and will be working closely and supporting the Psychological Professions staff, as well as nursing, psychiatry, occupational therapy, psychologists, social worker and mental health practitioners.

Working within the Leadership Team for the service you will also be responsible for offering family & systemic psychotherapy, assessments, formulations and evidence based interventions. You will be joining a team which currently includes a Principal Psychologist, and a range of Psychological Professions. You will be supporting the professional and clinical supervision of these colleagues, and CAMHS colleagues as appropriate.
You will use your extensive clinical experience to assess and support the young person, alongside their parent and carer in order to enhance their clinical outcomes and quality of life.
The post is at band 8B and is 1 whole time, (5 days) and covers Chalkhill and the Sussex-wide intensive support specialist service.

In order to be a successful Principal family & systemic psychotherapist (8B) in our team you will be:
- Registered with UKCP
- Experienced in risk management
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced and varied role
- Able to communicate effectively in complex and challenging circumstances to support professional decision making
- Adaptable, organised, compassionate and a team player
- Experience working in a multi-disciplinary environment
Experience working with families who are facing tough times and have a particular affinity for working with young people. Informal discussion is encouraged prior to application.
It would also be advantageous if you have your own car as the role will involve direct work with young people and their families in their homes and communities across Sussex.

Essential criteria
- An approved post graduate / Masters level qualification (or equivalent) in a recognised psychological therapy , leading to recognised professional accreditation in Psychoanalytic or Psychodynamic Psychotherapy or Group Analysis (BPC, UKCP, BAP, BACP), Systemic Family Therapy (AFT or UKCP), Child Psychotherapy (ACP), Art Therapy (HCPC), Play Therapy (BABT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (BABCP), or Psychotherapeutic Counselling (BACP or UKCP).
- Professionally registered as a psychological therapist with relevant registration body
- Evidence of relevant continuing professional development as required by the registration body
- Evidence of post-qualification training in clinical supervision

Essential criteria
- High level knowledge of the theory and practice of specified psychological therapy.
- Significant assessed experience of working as psychological therapist
- Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient and residential care settings severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
- Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care and treatment, both as a care coordinator and also within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan.
