Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Neurosurgeon to join the Neuro-oncology Team at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, a site of UCLH, a major London teaching hospital, which is also part of the academic health science partnership UCL Partners. Applications from both senior trainees and established consultants are welcome.

The post holder must be committed to high quality patient care, innovative service models, delivery of performance targets, advancement of knowledge through research, and excellence in education/training.
The post holder will be expected to have completed a formal Fellowship in Neuro-oncology at a recognised institution or additional equivalent experience in this field. A PhD in a related field is desirable.
The post holder will be a key member of the Neurosurgical Department and will be required to participate in audits within the department, including regular reviews of mortality and morbidity. You will be required to work with the current neurosurgeons as a team, which will include covering operating sessions to ensure the theatre lists are used every week throughout the year.
Candidates should have the ability to run and manage complex neurosurgical clinics and be able to supervise trainees. Candidates must be able to demonstrate experience in managing a variety of neurosurgical conditions and procedures.
Candidates must be eligible for full GMC registration; and either be already on or eligible to be on the Specialist Register and have completed a formal fellowship in neurosurgery at a recognised institution.

Essential criteria
- On GMC Specialist Register or within 3 months of attainment of CCT in neurosurgery / or equivalent at date of interview
- MB.BS or equivalent
- Fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons FRCS SN or FRCS or equivalent
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Clinical expertise in neuro-oncology surgical techniques for primary brain tumours, tumour resections including meningioma’s and metastases
- Ability to run and manage a neuro-oncology surgical service
- Ability to run and manage a neuro-oncology surgical service
- Experience in general neurosurgical procedures at a level to enable supervision of trainees and undertake on call duties.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of brain mapping MDT, where mapping paradigms are and complex surgical techniques are discussed
- Experience in awake craniotomy & techniques of brain mapping
- Experience of the use of iMRI
Management and Administration
Essential criteria
- Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist service
- Ability to organise and manage specialist service including outpatient referrals, surgical waiting lists and operating lists
Clinical Governance Management and IT
