To provide specialist and professional graphic design services for Birmingham Community NHS Foundation Trust, based in the Clinical Illustration department. The post will be responsible for developing visual materials in a wide variety of formats from print, web and multimedia; including but not limited to posters, leaflets, booklets, infographics, reports, web sites, illustrations and newsletters.
The post holder will design clear and accessible information to enhance patient experience within the Trust. The post holder will display excellent visual and verbal communication skills and promote department services.
Flexibility, confidence, and high levels of creativity are a must and the post holder will be expected to engage with internal audiences to understand their requirements, manage their expectations and deliver results aligned to the department and the Trust’s strategies.

To provide design and administration assistance to the Graphic Design Team. The post will provide assistance for our range of graphic design services, to meet the educational and marketing requirements of the Trust. These services include the design and print production of Trust publications such as leaflets, posters, signage, web graphics, merchandise and bound documents.
To actively promote the departments' services both internally and externally of the Trust.

- Serving as a key graphic design contact for requests from teams and divisions across the Trust. This includes managing the email enquires and responding to requests.
2. Delivering, creating and engaging design projects from conception to final outcome, whilst upholding the NHS visual identity.
3. Managing own workload:
i. to meet the demands of the service.
ii. to make valuable judgments on the correct approach
iii. to take into account customer requirements whilst following Trust policies and ethical considerations.
iv. to ensure a timely and professional response.
v. for efficient and appropriate allocation of time and resource in line with communications and Trust priorities.
4. Ensuring that BCHC/NHS brand guidelines and Trust polices are met in all design work produced. Prioritising inclusive and accessible design reflective of the Trusts patient demographic.
5. Advising and providing specialist advice to staff on branding, consent, copyright and other design issues in line with best practice.
6. Creating and Contributing to departmental work flows, policies and procedures.
7. Coordinating and negotiating print management costs from which quotes will be arranged. This will involve liasing with different print companies for best print costs (minimum of 3 quote for printing artwork).
8. Providing cost-effective quotations for clients.
9. Advising clients on the most appropriate materials and printing formats for their budget.
10. Using job management systems (Monday.com) to efficiently and effectively manage all requests to maintain workflow.
11. Liaising with external multi-media contractors/suppliers to ensure products are delivered within agreed timeframes and budgets.
12. Prioritise job requests to meet deadlines and managing own workload.
13. Maintain an up to date service portfolio to satisfy the requirements of the Trust. Bringing fresh ideas and high levels of creativity to the team by keeping up to date with the latest graphic design trends and professional industry standards.
14. Maintaining strong relationships with own team, printers, staff and senior staff members by displaying excellent communication skills. Able to manage client expectations, problem solve and work on own initiative by liaising directly with BCHC and external staff and printing suppliers.
15. Manage projects from initial request through to completion, organising time effectively to meet deadlines.
16. Manage the graphic design email account and job management system.
17. Assist clients in developing briefs that support patient and staff centered design outcomes. Raising awareness of accessibility principles, industry standards and Trust policy. This will include the production of posters, leaflets, booklets, infographics, reports, web sites, illustrations and newsletters.
18. Awareness of printing processes, to correctly set artwork.
19. Working with the photography team to brief and request suitable PR photographs for literature. When reprinting patient information, the review will ensure consent is still valid, and arranging new photographs if necessary.
20. Responsible for highlighting to line manager and ensure a safe working environment in graphic design either in the office or home environment.
21. Training will be provided to the candidate to undertake animation when there is a business need.
22. Keep computer skills for graphic design up to date, including the latest software, image manipulation, colour management and printing processes.
23. Highlight to the line manager and service when identifying new software that will enable the service to be current and may meet service demands for the future.
24. A good working knowledge/expertise and confidence in appropriate Adobe design packages.

In accordance with UK Home Office requirements, Band 2 clinical and non-clinical roles and Band 3 Non-Clinical roles are not eligible for sponsorship.
Please note that the majority of non-clinical roles (Agenda for Change Band 3 - 6) with the exception of those which appear on this list - link, will not meet the minimum requirements set by UK Visas and Immigration to sponsor candidates to work in the UK.
All non-clinical roles (Agenda for Change Bands 7 - 9) that meet the prescribed skill level (RQF 6) and salary threshold will be eligible for sponsorship.

DBS Costs
Please be aware that all new employees starting work with the Trust will be charged for the cost of their DBS check if it is required for the role. The cost will be deducted from your salary in 3 payments over a 3-month period once you start employment. By applying for this role, you are agreeing to these deductions being made. The charges for the DBS include the administration fee. The total costs are £26.40 for a standard check and £54.40 for an enhanced check. The level of check will be determined by the post you are applying for. For bank Workers the full cost of the DBS check (as detailed above) will be deducted from your pay following completion of your online mandatory training. No payment will be made for your online training until it is all complete and verified by the Temporary Staffing Team. Please note: You will not be able to work any bank shifts until you have completed your mandatory training, and your DBS is in place.
