Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. We provide a full range of hospital and community services for people in south London and as well as specialist care for patients from further afield including cancer, renal, orthopaedic, respiratory and cardiovascular services.
Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research.

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced midwife to manage a specialist high risk team, consisting of 7 team members.
This is specialist role caring for women with complex medical history in pregnancy. Managing and supporting midwives, other member of staff and working with MDT.
The post holder is responsible for co coordinating care for women with morbidities and work closely with the maternal medicine teams and other MDT.
The post holder liaise with external agencies to ensure women and birthing people are on the correct care pathways. The post holder will care for women and birthing people during the antenatal period and intrapartum period and provide continuity of care where possible.
This role is essential for maintaining excellent visible leadership for both staff and birthing people in this highly specialised midwifery team.
Post holder must demonstrate effective interpersonal skills when dealing with all levels of staff across the trust and be able to challenge senior staff around pathway performance.
Post holder participate in the development of policies, protocols and clinical guidelines in support of the specialist service. Set, monitor and review standards of care on a regular basis and initiate corrective action plans.
Maintain skills and knowledge in clinical midwifery practice and provide a leadership role model and demonstrate expert knowledge and high standards of clinical practice.

The post holder will lead, support and coordinate the day to day running of the Thames team and to play a key role in the maintenance and development of these services.
The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the provision of high quality, woman centred care for both antenatal & intrapartum areas, through the provision of clinical expertise, professional direction and leadership.
The post holder will ensure that the care provided by the Thames team is in keeping with the Philosophy of Care advocated within the Women's Health Directorate of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

As the only NHS Trust in London with women’s and specialist children’s services on one site we have unique opportunities to provide excellent, high-quality, integrated care for mothers, babies and children. Our directorate provides high quality care to patients across South East London, as well as delivering a range of specialist services both nationally and internationally. We treat approximately 40,000 gynaecology patients, and deliver 6,400 NHS births and 350 private births a year. We have one of the largest NHS IVF units in the UK, which includes our flagship Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis services. Alongside our clinical services, we are integrated with colleagues at Kings College London, delivering a significant programme of research and development.

The post holder will:
Work in accordance with the NMC’s rules and code of conduct for midwives.
Maintain and develop professional knowledge and competence in accordance within the NMC recommendations.
Implement recommendations from Government and professional bodies in relation to maternity care.
Act as a role model for midwifery practice to all staff within the directorate.
Formulate and ensure all staff are aware and implementing the evidence-based protocols agreed for the Women’s directorate.
Work closely with the MDT to make individualised specialist care plans for women and their families.
Identify areas of practice, which require further investigation and initiate and participate in both midwifery and medical research and audit programmes.
Participate in the teaching and dissemination of professional and clinical knowledge to all learners and members of staff.
Provide a mentor support system for students and midwives within the Midwifery practice.
Lead, co-ordinate and manage clinical activities in relation to provision of midwifery care model in order to improve/maintain care in the hospital and/or primary care setting.
Participate in appraisals of AFC Band 6 midwives, on at least an annual basis in line with Trust policies.
Arrange and develop orientation programmes, which familiarise new members of staff with the organisational and clinical demands of the unit and Midwifery practice.
Act on, participate in the investigation of complaints, incidents and accidents and report to your Midwifery Matron as appropriate.
Ensure that working conditions are safe in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act.
Deputise for High risk Midwifery Matron as required.
To be fully informed of the risk management strategy, be responsible for reporting incidents, risk assessment and development of action plans to reduce risk and complaints.
