Job overview
Senior Education Manager
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a six-month internal secondment into a Senior Practice Education Manager (SEM) role in the Clinical Education Department from March 2025.
This period may be extended as required.
This post would suit a highly motivated, adaptable and experienced individual who has demonstrated emerging leadership skills within clinical education and, in particular, post qualifying education provision and management.
The individual appointed will need to help us deliver the values of SECAmb : Courage, Integrity and Kindness in all areas of Clinical Education.
Band 8a for the period of secondment - £53,755 -£60,504 Per annum (pro rata for part time/job share)
Location: Various sites Trust wide (travel required across Trust sites). Please note that Haywards Heath has been stated purely to meet the requirement of the recruitment software system.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Work with the Consultant Paramedic (Clinical Education), Head of Education, operational managers, and HR to develop a Strategy to support the workforce plan and the achievement of the trust’s aims and objectives.
Oversee the Clinical Conversion Course programme working closely with others involved with the recruitment and induction of new recruits for example colleagues in the OD team and the HR Operations/Resourcing team.
Oversee the transition to practice programme for newly qualified Paramedics, working closely with the Transition to Practice Manager and others involved with the recruitment and induction of new recruits for example colleagues in the OD team and the HR Operations/Resourcing team
Ensure that new graduates (and all other new recruits) receive a professional introduction to the organisation and that issues or concerns in the first few weeks of employment whilst undertaking their initial training are resolved efficiently and promptly. This may include liaising with other colleagues/operational managers as required.

Develop Key Skills updates to ensure that the Trust meets statutory and mandatory requirements and that patient safety is maintained.
Manage and coordinate the delivery of key skills updates across the organisation using local operating unit capacity to deliver the training.
Lead the delivery of short courses/CPD across the organisation ensuring that courses meet the current and future needs of individuals and the organisation in accordance with the clinical strategy and changing operating model.
Act as the Trust lead for Continuing Professional Development, providing appropriate CPD material that will support staff to maintain their clinical competence.
Manage the Ambulance Simulator to maximise its use as a resource ensuring good Return on Investment.
Lead on, develop, and implement the trust’s approach to Professional and Clinical development.
Work with the other members of the education team to establish processes for the evaluation of training and development provided to ensure that it meets organisational requirements and represents a sound investment.
Lead the Trusts e-learning work stream to ensure that e-learning is managed appropriately with a focus on realising the benefits of the planned roll out of tablets to all operational staff.
Manage a delegated proportion of the Clinical Education budget within the Trust’s financial policies and procedures, to ensure optimum cost effectiveness in the use of resources deployment
Advise on academic, professional and technical developments within their field of expertise.
Participate in programme planning and development meetings within the Directorate and with FE colleges and other external partners and stakeholders.
Evaluate and provide quality assurance for training and development undertaken in the trust to ensure it is effective and complies with local and national requirements (insurance, NHSLA, CQC etc). Make or recommend improvements where necessary to ensure that the intended outcome of the training is achieved.
Participate in the assessment and management of clinical risk.
Undertake Serious Untoward investigations, provide advice and coaching to senior clinical managers when required in order to maintain professional standards
Work with the other clinical education colleagues to ensure the production of the trust’s annual Training and Development Plan.
Engage with line managers and the clinical audit team to identify their training and development needs and those of their staff and to develop training interventions to meet these.
Supervise the assessment and examination of learners within Clinical Education and its partner organisations’ Assessment and Examination Procedures.
Participate in the evaluation of on-going training and development initiatives and propose strategies to overcome performance deficiencies.
Lead on the clinical assessment of candidates as part of the recruitment and selection process as required.
Undertake any other work commensurate with the grade of the post.
Please note that the salary range noted on the vacancy is in line with agenda for change (AFC) pay scales. All successful applicants would be placed automatically at the bottom of the banding, unless proven, relevant NHS or equivalent experience can be demonstrated.
