The Trust’s Childrens safeguarding team is offering an exciting and rewarding opportunity for a highly motivated and professional Registered Nurse to join our Safeguarding Childrens service.
This is a specialist role which offers you the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge within an integrated safeguarding team.
As a Specialist Children's Safeguarding Nurse, you will support professionals working within the Trust to improve their own safeguarding knowledge and skills through training, supervision, support and guidance.
You will case hold open cases, contribute to case discussions and attend safeguarding meetings.
Support wards and departments; act as an advisor and link to multi-agency partners as needed. The post holder will work closely with all levels of staff within the organisation and be a point of contact in relation to the safeguarding of children. You will work within a friendly, dynamic team alongside other Specialist Nurses.

The primary focus of the role will be to support the effective delivery of all child safeguarding services by working alongside the child safeguarding specialist nurses and the matron for child safeguarding.
As a first point of contact the post holder will provide expert advice, professional support, guidance and education to the multi-professional teams, partner agencies, patients and carers. You must have the ability to work both as part of a team and autonomously, and be able to prioritise and manage your own workload.
You must be committed to advocating for the rights of vulnerable people and act as a professional role model at all times.
You must be willing and able to professionally challenge practice and to support the investigation of child safeguarding enquiries.
The post holder will report to the matron for safeguarding children.
The post holder will provide a service across all sites and CMGs of the Trust. The post is full time and the successful candidate will need to work flexibly on occasions.
Applicants wishing to apply for this post must be a Level One Registered Nurse, with a minimum of 2 years post registration experience caring for children in an acute healthcare setting. Experience of working in child safeguarding is desirable, and evidence of professional development is essential.

- To be a visible and accessible figure that staff, patients and carers can approach for assistance, support, advice and action regarding safeguarding children.
- To assist Trust staff with day-to-day safeguarding children issues to ensure that there are safe and effective systems in place to maintain safety and reduce risks, with support and oversight of the Childrens Safeguarding Matron.
- Contribute to the delivery and evaluation of a range of educational / training opportunities for staff on Safeguarding Children and associated safeguarding matters. This will include Trust Mandatory Safeguarding Children training.
- To ensure Trust and local partnership guidelines and protocols are adhered to when safeguarding concerns are raised, and to actively participate in the development of Trust policies & guidelines.
- To participate in responding to, and addressing, the internal child safeguarding incidents with support and oversight of the senior safeguarding Specialist Nurses, ensuring that safeguarding records and reports are completed fully and accurately.
- To act as a link with multi-agencies to support Trust staff in communication, including attendance at multi agency meetings.
- To contribute to the work of the Trust’s Safeguarding Assurance Committee under supervision of the Matron for Safeguarding Children and the Child Safeguarding Senior Specialist Nurses.
- Work alongside the Trust’s maternity and adult safeguarding teams, and the learning disability acute liaison team as appropriate.
- Maintain an up to date professional portfolio to support knowledge skills framework and professional development and undertake all relevant training updates.
- Participate in clinical supervision to maintain personal professional practice and selfdevelopment and to ensure own knowledge of best practice is continuously updated.
- Acts as a role model to demonstrate the Trust’s values and behaviours at all times.
