Job overview
The WTWA Estates Team provides a wide range of estate and property management services across Wythenshawe Hospital, Trafford Hospital, Withington Community Hospital and Altrincham Hospital (WTWA). The Team has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Mechanical, Plumber, Fitter or multi skilled engineer to join our estates maintenance team to support the delivery of Hard FM services across the estate.
The WTWA Estates Tradesperson (Mechanical, Plumber, Fitter or multi skilled engineer) will be responsible for supporting the team in ensuring that all buildings, plant & infrastructure are maintained safely and cost effectively within agreed statutory requirements, in accordance with NHS and Trust policies and procedures.
The successful candidate will enjoy working in a multi-disciplinary team environment with diverse healthcare professionals, supporting delivery of maintenance works through in-house staff and contractors in a hospital environment. As part of this role you and the team will be delivering estates maintenance and compliance services to different service users across WTWA. Each day, project or challenge will be different, so if variety is what keeps you motivated then this is the job for you.
You will be willing and able to undertake on-call duties (for which an on-call supplement is payable). Being on-call is required as part of this role. You must also be able to undertake additional overtime working as required to meet the contingencies of the service.
Advert
- To participate in the provision of an Estates service primarily undertaking mechanical day-to-day reactive repairs, planned maintenance, installation, and minor improvements. It will be anticipated that some general building repair duties will also be required to be undertaken.
- The post holder will be required to carry out small works as required. Plan, set out, manufacture, assemble, erect, and install new works utilising relevant drawings, specifications, instruments, machinery, tools and equipment. Test, certify and commission services and equipment upon completion. Assist in developing cost plans for small works with the WTWA Estates Officer as required.
- Undertake the planned preventative maintenance of complex plant, equipment and services following both manufacturers and local procedures guidelines.
- Undertake a full range of reactive maintenance works of complex plant, equipment and services following both manufacturers and local procedure guidelines in a timely manner.
- To undertake overtime working by mutual agreement so as to ensure the needs of the service are satisfied.
- Ensure safe systems of works and associated permits are adhered to at all times where applicable.
- Travel to other sites within the WTWA portfolio to assist in Planned & Reactive estate duties.
- To participate in the WTWA On Call Rota system in dealing with out of hour’s emergencies.

- Experience of working in a pressurised reactive environment
- Completion of a structured training program in Mechanical Engineering discipline for a minimum of 5 years
- Knowledge of a variety of computer based Building Management Systems i.e. CAFM
- Experience of estate related audits and control procedures
- Practical and theoretical building structure and fabric knowledge
Desirable criteria
- Awareness of NHS Estates HTMs and HBNs
- Experience in both Operational Estates activities in a large Acute NHS Organisation
- Experience of working for an NHS Trust with outsourced services through a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) Agreement
