Job overview
We are thrilled to be able to offer an exciting opportunity to work within our Cardiothoracic Clinical Board based at the Freeman Hospital as a specialist Nurse in our Inherited Cardiac conditions service.
This role is pivotal in supporting our families affected by Inherited Cardiac Conditions. As a Specialist Nurse within the Cardiac Family History Service, you will act in an autonomous capacity to manage a hugely interesting case load of conditions supporting families affected by sudden cardiac deaths, familial cardiomyopathies, inherited electrical disorders and inherited aortopathies. Through nurse-led clinics, you will provide our patients with access to clinical investigations, draw up family pedigrees and counsel patients through genomic testing, ensuring a timely diagnosis and treatment options.
We are interested in hearing from enthusiastic, motivated nurses who can demonstrate sound experience in adult cardiology and are keen to develop clinical skills and knowledge of cardiac genomics. Banding is dependent on experience at 6/7.

Candidates who can demonstrate essential criteria of significant experience working in a senior role with independent and autonomous clinical decision making with clinical skills and history taking will have the confidence and skills the role requires to work as a senior case holder from day one.
Recognised cardiac genomics accreditation will be advantageous.
Equally we are keen to support progression and succession in this role at Band 6 with an education framework where the successful post holder will be supported with bespoke training to achieve competency. We have a small friendly team of experienced adult ICC Clinical Nurse specialist this role if successful you will benefit from this expert support.
This rewarding role requires close multi-disciplinary team working both within our specialist directorate services and across organisational boundaries to ensure the best outcome for our patients. This includes supporting new initiatives and therapies to support patient care for our families.

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust define a nurse specialist as a qualified nurse where the primary purpose of role is to provide guidance and support based on advanced level knowledge to patients, carers and health professionals concerning a specific disease/condition.
Within the sphere of specialist practice:
- Is working towards advanced knowledge and skills within specialist sphere of practice.
- Contributes to the facilitation of the planning, delivery and evaluation of care pathways for a designated group of patients.
- Support the development of nursing practice within the specialist field and contribute to the body of nursing knowledge.
- Contributes to training and education within specialist area
