Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. We provide a full range of hospital and community services for people in south London and as well as specialist care for patients from further afield including cancer, renal, orthopaedic, respiratory and cardiovascular services.
Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research.

Job overview
A key operational role that will be the face of the service, providing a world class inventory stock management system. This role will support the supply chain manager in the delivery of a highly effective supply chain service.
The post holder will be responsible for the management of a service team and will be responsible for dealing with all day to day operational issues. They will also ensure that processes and policies are adhered to and targets are monitored and achieved.
In the absence of the Service Manager, Deputy Service Manager or Site Manager, they will be expected to deputise.

· External: Suppliers of Medical Products; suppliers of non-medical products; external auditors; NHS Supply Chain.
Advert
Support to the Procurement Supply Chain Manager for leading the Supply Chain teams in delivering the service across the Trust.
Support the Supply Chain Manager to improve control of the Trust’s supply chain and the provision of accurate management information.
Problem solve all day to day management issues and dealing with complaints.
Responsible for the management of Inventory Management Systems and their replenishment service.
Responsible for monitoring the KPI’s and SLA
Provide regular updates and reports to review performance of service and provide action plans

Monitor and assess Ward Audits to ensure the Materials Management Team are managing stocks effectively
To ensure that the team staffing levels sits within the standards set.
Responsible for the procurement of replacement supplies where required.
Plan and organise all regular audits and inspections.

The post holder is expected to work to set annual KPIs. A mid year review of all objectives will take into account any additional or new Trust service targets.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Policy Development and System Management
Responsible for the implementation inventory management systems
Responsible for the implementation of the service level Supply Chain policies and procedures.
To support the development and implementation of sustainable and quantifiable improvements in service delivery. Ensuring at all times that the service meets with the needs of the Trust.
To continuously review the delivery of the service and work with the Supply Chain manager to improve service delivery including revising processes and procedures.
To work in partnership with other senior supply chain managers to develop and implement a long term strategy of service standardisation and service delivery.
Staff management
Responsible for ensuring that all staff undertake the appropriate training for their roles, including all Inventory Management Systems and associated equipment such as PDAs or cabinet training.
Responsible for co-ordinating a team within the Supply Chain Service.
Responsible for ensuring that rotas are appropriately developed to ensure full cover is provided. Anticipate staff shortages and problem areas and take action to minimise the impact of these on service delivery
Ensure all staff comply with relevant Trust policies and standing financial instructions.

Confidentiality / Data Protection / Freedom of Information
Post holders must maintain the confidentiality of information about patients, staff and other health service business in accordance with the Data Protection Act of 2018. Post holders must not, without prior permission, disclose any information regarding patients or staff. If any member of staff has communicated any such information to an unauthorised person, those staff will be liable to disciplinary action up to and including dismissal. Moreover, the Data Protection Act 2018 also renders an individual liable for prosecution in the event of unauthorised disclosure of information.
Following the Freedom of Information Act (FOI) 2000, post holders must apply the Trust’s FOI procedure if they receive a written request for information.
Information Governance
All staff must comply with information governance requirements. These includes statutory responsibilities (such as compliance with the Data Protection Act), following national guidance (such as the NHS Confidentiality Code of Practice) and compliance with local policies and procedures (such as the Trust's Confidentiality policy). Staff are responsible for any personal information (belonging to staff or patients) that they access and must ensure it is stored, processed and forwarded in a secure and appropriate manner.

Infection Control
All post holders have a personal obligation to act to reduce healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs). They must attend mandatory training in Infection Control and be compliant with all measures required by the Trust to reduce HCAIs. All post holders must comply with Trust infection screening and immunisation policies as well as be familiar with the Trust’s Infection Control Policies, including those that apply to their duties, such as Hand Decontamination Policy, Personal Protective Equipment Policy, safe procedures for using aseptic techniques and safe disposal of sharps.
Risk Management
All post holders have a responsibility to report risks such as clinical and non-clinical accidents or incidents promptly. They are expected to be familiar with the Trust’s use of risk assessments to predict and control risk, as well as the incident reporting system for learning from mistakes and near misses in order to improve services. Post holders must also attend training identified by their manager, or stated by the Trust to be mandatory.
