Job overview
Lavender Walk is a 12 bed General Adolescent Unit (GAU) that cares for young people between the ages of 13-18 years old, with complex mental health needs and emotional difficulties. We are a busy and friendly service which welcomes new skills and new ideas. It is part of Central & North West London (CNWL) Foundation Mental Health Trust and is situated in the borough of Kensington & Chelsea and located within the South Kensington and Chelsea Mental Health Centre (1 Nightingale Place, London, SW10 9NG). There are good transport links and a variety of local shops and amenities.
The Lavender Walk team is made up of two Consultant Psychiatrists (one of whom is the Clinical Lead), Consultant Clinical Psychologist (Therapies Lead), Matron (Clinical Unit Manager), Ward Manager, Qualified Nurses, Nurse Associates, Health Care Assistants, Speciality Doctors Junior Doctors, Clinical Psychologists, Systemic Family Psychotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Art Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist, Dietician, Social Worker and Teaching staff. We also regularly have students and trainees from the above professional disciplines on placement with the team.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic team and take on the role of Assistant Psychologist in a Tier 4 CAMHS unit. This is a new post for the Lavender Walk Adolescent Unit and you will have a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the development of the role which we hope will become an integral part of the therapeutic provision provided by the ward.
We are looking for a motivated individual who is enthusiastic, forward thinking, and adaptable to work within our well established and welcoming multi-disciplinary team. The post-holder will have a passion for supporting the psychological well-being of our patients and they will become part of the Lavender Walk Therapies Team who were recent finalists for the Team of the Year at CNWL’s Therapies Awards. The post-holder will work alongside their colleagues, receiving support and supervision from a qualified Clinical Psychologist, on ensuring the provision of highly specialist psychological assessment, formulation and intervention.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· To assist practitioner psychologists in the delivery of a specialist applied psychology service in a Tier 4 inpatient CAMHS unit.
· To provide clinical work as required by the service, under the direct guidance, close clinical and professional supervision of a practitioner psychologist. This includes both individual and group interventions with young people and their parents/carers.
· To assist in clinically related administration, including but not limited to, collection of routine outcome measures/statistics, taking minutes of clinical and professional meetings, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • A First-class or Upper-second-class Bachelor’s degree with Honours in Psychology that is accredited by the British Psychological Society and confers the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership of the British Psychological Society.
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Sufficient post-graduate experience of psychological assessment and treatment of clients with a range of psychological needs in a child and adolescent setting to be able to work clinically with close direct supervision.
- • Post-graduate experience of conducting research projects or audits.
- • Experience that supports working with, and addressing issues of, diversity within local communities. This may have been gained through work, research, volunteering and / or lived experience.
Desirable criteria
- • Experience of administering either ADOS-2, ADI-R, 3Di, WISC-V or any other specialist psychology / cognitive assessments.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- • Graduate level knowledge of psychological research methodology and statistical analysis.
- • Good theoretical knowledge of the problems experienced by and needs of adolescents and of methods of assessment and treatment.
- • Awareness of racial and diversity issues through attendance of relevant training.
Desirable criteria
- • Knowledge of acute mental crisis presentations and the reasons an inpatient admission may be required.
- • Knowledge of risks and safeguarding concerns affecting an adolescent population.
- • Knowledge of neurodiversity and how the needs of this population can impact on mental health.
Skills
Essential criteria
- • Skills in relevant psychological assessment and interventions that enable working as a pre-qualified practitioner with close clinical supervision.
- • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills including communicating complex, information to clients, families and colleagues.
- • Skills in providing supporting teaching and training provided by psychologists or others to other professional groups.
- • Well-developed IT skills including entry and analysis of research data.
