Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and dynamic Chief Cardiac Physiologist to lead the ever expanding and developing Cardiac Rhythm Management Department supported by a passionate clinical team.
Our internationally renowned Cardiothoracic Clinical Board provides secondary and tertiary Cardiac and transplantation services to the North of England and beyond. .
The department offer physiology led loop implants and are looking to expand other services.
Applicants must have relevant cardiac rhythm experience and be British Heart Rhythm Accredited with the ability to work independently.

- As a team lead for the CRM department you will be expected to work collaboratively with leaders across the Cardiothoracic Clinical Board whilst providing a high quality service regionally.
- This will include responsibilities around training and development, non complex rota and line management as well as prioritising work effectively to ensure consistent service provision.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Leads a designated area of practice within the cardiac rhythm management section and delivers a specialist clinical service e.g. autonomous role in running pacemaker and ICD follow-up clinics.
- Assists in developing, implementing, and monitoring clinical and organisational strategies within areas of expertise
- Maintains and develops high standards of service provision throughout their area of responsibility.
- Contributes to service and staff development including performing annual appraisals
- Participate as required in the on-call rota to provide a 24-hour emergency service for pacing /ICD problems for adult and paediatric patients.
- Responsible for electronic staff rostering and ensuring staffing is adequate for service need
- To train a wide variety of staff groups in the specialist techniques of pacing.
- To develop the highly specialised technical aspects of Bi ventricular pacing and defibrillator implantation and optimization, as well as the existing multisite pacing service.
- To be flexible in working within other areas when service needs demand.

Qualifications & Education
Essential criteria
- MSc in Clinical Physiology, HNC / Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement or equivalent experience
- Specialised postgraduate examinations i.e. BHRS
- Previous experience at a Senior Clinical Physiologist level including extensive training and experience within area of speciality (Masters level equivalent).
- RCCP state registration [Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists] or equivalent (HCPC or AHCS)
Desirable criteria
- Recent clinical experience within area of speciality.
- Experience and knowledge in all areas of non-invasive and invasive Cardiology.
- Good IT skills
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive experience within highly specialised area, providing leadership, guidance, and detailed advice to all other rotational and specialised Clinical Physiologists.
- To provide and coordinate the Cardiac Rhythm Management Service
- To organise the running and rotation of staff within the CRM Department
- To provide and develop the multisite pacemaker implantation and technically led follow up service
- To provide and develop the ICD and Bi Ventricular implantation, optimisation and technically led follow up service.
- To develop and implement training programs in pacing for Clinical Physiologists at Freeman Hospital in order to provide a high-quality service to the cardiothoracic team.
- To provide training to staff groups on a regional basis in all aspects of pacing.
- To participate in the teaching of the degree course in Clinical Physiology and to prepare and assist in the assessment of trainees to the required level.
- To play an active part in research projects carried out at Freeman Hospital.

- Regular communication with all medical staff, nurses, patients, relatives, and carers.
- Analysis and accurate conveyance of highly complex, sensitive, and possible contentious diagnostic information either verbally or by report to all levels of medical staff including Senior Registrars Consultants Cardiologists and Surgeons
- To explain full range of complex non-invasive tests and effect of internal device implantation to adult and paediatric patients.
- Persuasive and motivational skills essential for influencing patients undergoing exercise and long-term monitoring procedures, with precise instructions needed to obtain maximum results in all areas.
- Relate factual information to often anxious and upset relatives regarding departmental examinations and procedures
- Perceptive and tactful conveyance of information in relation to emotive patient and relative questioning regarding extremely delicate test results obtained
