Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. We provide a full range of hospital and community services for people in south London and as well as specialist care for patients from further afield including cancer, renal, orthopaedic, respiratory and cardiovascular services.
Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated person to work as a patient access coordinator in the sleep disorders centre
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a fast paced team, successful candidate should ideally have previous NHS or customer service experience. With a proven record of working well both within a team and individually.

The patient access coordinator role includes the duties below but is not limited to the Job description.
Main Duties
• Act as the first point of call for all patient access queries to the Trust.
• Be responsible for the scheduling of outpatient, elective admissions and all associated appointments according to clinical urgency and length of wait in accordance with departmental procedures and Trust Policies.
• Liaise with patients prior to their hospital visit to ensure that a mutually convenient date and time is agreed.
• Ensure that patients are appropriately reminded of their appointments. This may include sending reminder letters or contacting patients by telephone, up to seven days before their visit to re-confirm attendance in line with departmental protocols.
• Provide a courteous and efficient point of contact for patients both face to face and over the telephone.
During the patient visit
• Provide a welcoming and efficient reception service and to put patients at their ease.
• Ensure all patients’ demographic details are checked with the patient and any amendments/corrections are made in an accurate and timely fashion.
• Ensure that all data is inputted accurately into the computerised hospital administration system in a timely manner.
• Liaise with the medical and colleagues staff to ensure the smooth running of the clerical function within the clinics.
Working for our organisation
- Guy's and St Thomas' and King’s Health Partners new Cancer Centre offers a full range of services for the diagnosis and treatment of all adult cancers. Patients from across south east London attend for treatment which is not available at their local hospital. The Trust's cancer services will be provided at the Cancer Centre on the Guy’s site as well as the new site at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Kent.
Over the next five years, GSTT will help establish an internationally renowned Comprehensive Cancer Centre by:
- providing the very best cancer service to patients by combining first class clinical care with ground-breaking research and high quality training and development across the AHSC
- improving outcomes and experience for cancer patients with complex needs through earlier diagnosis, effective treatment and the provision of high quality survivorship care
- embedding whole person care across the cancer pathway and strive to bring treatment programmes closer to home
- developing and test new biological and cellular therapies in a range of cancers
- opening a new £160 million cancer centre at Guy’s Hospital and a sister centre in Sidcup, which will transform the delivery of cancer services, so patients will receive the right treatment at the right time, delivered within fewer visits and tailored to their need.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The successful candidate will need to have excellent customer service skills, accuracy, attention to detail, ability to multi task and use initiative in a busy environment supporting a range of teams.
The role requires the ability to liaise with all disciplines of staff i.e. Directorate Managers, Consultants, Nurses and administrative colleagues, work well as part of a team, be professional and personable at all times.
The post holder must be IT literate and have the ability to navigate trust IT systems and should have some understanding of National cancer waiting targets.
The ideal candidate will be flexible with working days and hours to meet the needs of the service.
Monday to Friday rotational shifts between the hours of 08:30 - 17:00.
