We provide a full range of acute clinical services from Northampton General Hospital and Danetre Hospital in Daventry. We are a designated cancer centre and have recently invested in a number of additional specialist services, including in-patient renal services and interventional cardiology. All elective inpatients and emergency admissions are screened for MRSA. As part of our work to improve clinical outcomes we are taking part in a national patient safety programme and have invested in systems to capture patients views on the service we provide. We understand that sometimes a small change can make a big difference for patients.

To operate as an Advanced Pharmacist to deliver a highly specialist Pharmacy Service to Adult Oncology service being an active member of the multidisciplinary team and thereby promoting the safe, appropriate and clinically effective use of medicines.
To organise, provide and evaluate Pharmaceutical Services to the Oncology Division, inpatients, outpatients and day case chemotherapy.
To communicate highly complex information relating to medicines with clinicians, nurses, independent prescribers, carers and patients.
To support, develop and evaluate the delivery of a responsive, proactive, patient-focused clinical pharmacy service to the Oncology directorate with the Principal Pharmacist and Associate Chief Pharmacist, Clinical Services.
To contribute to the effective medicines management by maintaining and developing key guidelines, protocols and PGDs.
To line manage, supervise and train pharmacy staff working in / or rotating through Oncology.
To deputise for the Principal Pharmacist, Cancer Services as required by the service.
To contribute to the delivery of the Trust’s Medicines Optimisation Strategy.
Provide effective input into the work of the Trust, to support the achievement of our vision and values.

The main responsibilities of the post will include the following:
Specialist Clinical Pharmacy Service to Adult Clinical Oncology and Haematology
To deliver a high level Specialist Clinical Pharmacist Service to Adult Clinical Oncology, including the provision of a daily Clinical Pharmacist Service to inpatients on the ward, outpatient clinics and day case chemotherapy.
To use specialist knowledge and expertise to make complex judgements and provide expert clinical advice, utilising highly complex information, evaluate evidence and to advise in situations when evidence is lacking in the specialist area of Oncology.
To work as a prescriber in clinics and optimise the use of pharmacist independent prescribers in Oncology clinics
To provide general and specialist advice and information relating to medicines to all levels of health professionals, senior managers and patients within the specialised area to enhance the quality of patient care.
To provide support and information necessary to manage medicines safely and cost-effectively.
Plan appropriate audit and practice research and implement appropriate service changes to Adult Oncology.
To make and communicate appropriate clinical interventions as part of the service provided and discuss with Pharmacists in the Cancer Services Team.
To support the Principal Pharmacist to investigate incidents and complaints relating to medicines usage within the specialist area and discuss with Pharmacists in the Cancer Services Team.

Lead the development and implementation of medicine-related guidelines, policies, and procedures
· To make and communicate appropriate clinical interventions as part of the service provided and discuss with Pharmacists in the Cancer Services Team.
· To support the Principal Pharmacist to investigate incidents and complaints relating to medicines usage within the specialist area and discuss with Pharmacists in the Cancer Services Team.
· To ensure Adult and Clinical Trials Oncology treatment protocols are safe and aligned with Cancer Network protocols and NICE/CDF.
· To prepare new or off-protocol prescription documentation, as required.
· To adhere to local and national guidance and policies.
· To implement changes in the current working practices within Pharmacy and chemotherapy prescribing and encourage new ways of working.
· To supervise, check and, if necessary, undertake the supply of medicines.
· To optimise medicines through prescribing role operating within areas of competence (where appropriately qualified and authorised via the trust NMP register).
· Maintain an up-to-date clinical expert knowledge in Clinical Pharmacy and pharmacy practice to ensure a broad base of pharmaceutical knowledge and an advanced level of clinical reasoning and judgement.
· To fulfil the requirements of the Code of Ethics and Standards of Good Professional Practice.
· To implement the Duty of Candour.
