An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Sonographer to take on a leadership/ management role as Superintendent Sonographer for Newcastle Upon Tyne NHS Trust.
The post holder will provide a professionally competent, efficient and effective service, whilst maintaining a high level of clinical expertise in their specialist area. The post holder will participate in provision of a high quality ultrasound service for a wide range of referrers across all Trust ultrasound facilities.
Alongside the Regional Ultrasound Manager, the post holder will provide support and operational management to all members of the Ultrasound team in order to ensure delivery of a high quality and cost effective trust wide ultrasound service meeting the needs of patient care and referrers whilst maintaining performance targets and quality standards set by the trust and the directorate. Supporting the regional ultrasound manager in general administrative tasks to ensure the smooth operational function of the ultrasound service.
As well as extensive clinical experience, there is a requirement for robust leadership skills, and candidates must show effective previous experience of this. The role would involve a mixture of clinical and admin sessions.
Suitable post for an experienced Imaging specialist who has demonstrated a high level of clinical achievement and wishes to develop a managerial role.

Responsible, alongside and under the supervision of the regional ultrasound manager, for the management and delivery of a comprehensive and effective Ultrasound imaging service.
To manage within the Ultrasound service, the staff, personal development, and act as first line manager for sickness/absence, capability, disciplinary and professional issues.
To provide professional support for staff and to develop plans to improve patient care within current professional and legal standards, local and national policies.
Candidates should be flexible and able to adapt to the day to day workload, prioritising workload based on clinical urgency.

- Trust wide responsible for delivery of an effective and efficient high quality ultrasound service and patient care that meets the needs of patients and referrers. Provides highly specialist knowledge and care to patients, referring clinicians and team members.
- Acts as the lead radiographer in the ultrasound department, setting and maintaining standards, managing and providing direction to the staff and expert advice on specialist equipment to the directorate, as well as advice to users, patients, colleagues etc.
To perform and independently report ultrasound scans.
Member of the Radiology ultrasound strategy group for the planning and development of ultrasound services across the city.

- BSc Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent with at previous recent post-graduation experience.
- MSc or Post Graduate Diploma (Pg. Dip) in Medical Ultrasound with extensive post graduate clinical experience some of which must be in Ultrasound at Band 7 level
