Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. We provide a full range of hospital and community services for people in south London and as well as specialist care for patients from further afield including cancer, renal, orthopaedic, respiratory and cardiovascular services.
Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research.

Job overview
The post holder will take strategic and operational responsibility for pharmacy and medicines optimisation services delivered to the Heart, Lung & Critical Care (HLCC) Clinical Group. This will include leadership, evaluation and assurance of pharmacy services delivered to the Clinical Group in accordance with the Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation and HLCC Clinical Group strategy and objectives. The post holder will also be the pharmacy site lead for Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospital sites and will therefore lead the profession on these sites, with oversight of all pharmacy and medicines optimisation activities, and supporting the broader medicines safety agenda.

The post holder will be responsible for implementation and assurance of systems to improve medicines governance and safety within the Clinical Group. They will be responsible for development and delivery of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led pharmacy services within the Clinical Group and as budget-holder, will be responsible for ensuring services are delivered within an agreed annual budget.
As a member of the Trust Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation Directorate Management Team, the post holder will influence and contribute to Directorate strategy and operational leadership as required and will be responsible for integration of the Clinical Group with wider Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation services, working closely with other Associate Chief Pharmacists and Associate Directors/Service Leads.
The post holder will also be responsible for oversight and delivery of the Pharmacy Digital Innovation and Pharmacy Quality Improvement and Clinical Innovation Programmes across the Trust.
Working for our organisation
This is a unique opportunity to lead pharmacy services delivered to patients within a variety of specialties across Royal Brompton, Harefield, Guy's and St. Thomas' hospital sites. This Associate Chief Pharmacist role has an broad portfolio which includes clinical pharmacy services delivered to HLCC patients; Digital Innovation; Quality Improvement; Clinical Commissioning; and Pharmacy site lead for RBH and HH.
The post holder will manage a large team of around 130 individuals, supported by a dedicated Pharmacy Leadership Team structure for the RBH&HH sites. The post holder will manage and continue to develop a number of experienced pharmacy leaders, and will need to work with the Chief Pharmacist and DMT colleagues to continue to optimise the pharmacy operating model and delivery of services across all sites.
