Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. We provide a full range of hospital and community services for people in south London and as well as specialist care for patients from further afield including cancer, renal, orthopaedic, respiratory and cardiovascular services.
Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research.
We have a reputation for clinical excellence and high quality teaching and research. We are part of King’s Health Partners, one of eight accredited UK academic health sciences centres. In partnership with King’s College London we have dedicated clinical research facilities including an MHRA accredited Phase I clinical trials unit.
Patients are at the heart of everything we do and we pride ourselves on ensuring the best possible patient experience as well as safe, high quality care. We are proud to have one of the lowest mortality rates in the NHS. Following a comprehensive Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection in 2019 we maintained our overall rating of ‘good’. Our adult community services achieved a rating of ‘outstanding’.
The commitment of our 23,500 staff is key to our success. We are one of the largest local employers and we aim to develop and support all our staff so they are able to deliver high quality, safe and efficient care. The 2019 NHS staff survey results show that we have one of the most engaged and motivated workforces in the NHS. We know this has a positive impact on the care provided to our patients.
We have one of the most ambitious capital investment programmes anywhere in the NHS.
Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Assisted Conception Unit
This post will provide an excellent opportunity for clinical training in all aspects of Reproductive Medicine and Assisted Conception, within a busy unit offering a full range of Assisted Conception techniques including Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis as well as active participation in research. Applicants should have MRCOG part 2, be at SpR level in their Obstetrics and Gynaecology training and be interested in developing a subspecialty interest in Reproductive Medicine and research.
Advert
This clinical post is based in the Assisted Conception Unit, Guys Hospital and will provide broad experience and training in all aspects of reproductive medicine. The successful applicant will play an active role in the management of sub fertile couples attending both the Reproductive Medicine Clinic and Assisted Conception Unit, as part of a dedicated team which aims to give the highest possible standards of care. The Assisted Conception Unit moved into a new purpose built unit in August 2008 on 11th Floor, Guys Hospital. Cross site cover is required as inpatients are admitted to the gynaecology ward at St Thomas’ Hospital.
An induction training programme will be arranged and all procedures are supervised until sufficient proficiency is gained to be able to perform them with safety independently.
The hours of this post are up to 48 hours / week worked flexibly between 08.00 and 18.00 Monday to Friday and Saturday and Sunday mornings on a regular 1 in 4/5 rota. It may be necessary to work later on the day of the main Reproductive Medicine clinic (currently Wednesday) which is followed by a post clinic educational meeting. Flexibility of working hours is required to provide cover for monthly patient information evenings, care of inpatients and outpatient procedures (scans, blood tests, egg collections, embryo transfers) at weekends. The post is non-resident.
Working for our organisation
Evelina London is part of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, and we are responsible for providing services for women and children. With over 3,000 dedicated staff, and led by an Executive Team and Board, we have significant devolved autonomy to focus operationally and strategically upon the needs of our patients. We also benefit from being part of a large and successful NHS foundation trust, whose values we share. We have an ambitious strategic development programme, with backing from Guy’s and St Thomas’.
Every year, the number of children and young people Evelina London cares for continues to grow. We provide comprehensive health services from pre-conception, before birth, throughout childhood and into adult life. Evelina London is here for children, young people and women from London to South East England, and provides specialist care for families around the UK and across the world.
As the only NHS Trust in London with women’s and specialist children’s services on one site, we have unique opportunities to provide excellent, high-quality, integrated care for mothers, babies and children. We operate through five clinical directorates.
We provide care at our hospital sites, Evelina London Children’s Hospital and Royal Brompton Hospital, and provide community services for families in Lambeth and Southwark.
