Job overview
A very exciting opportunity has arisen for a Matron in the New Medical Day Unit at EDGH.
We would welcome applicants with a strong commitment to high quality patient focused care, and experience as a Band 7 or Band 6. . They must hold a teaching and accessing qualification or mentorship.
The leadership team will support you to develop professionally. Effective service management and leadership will improve patient experience. This role requires you to utilise your expertise and critical thinking skills to ensure performance and standards are monitored and continuously maintained.
You will need to be an organised, enthusiastic individual with excellent communication and inspirational leadership skills, alongside having the passion and ability to deliver high quality care. You will act as a role model for the nursing team, promoting a positive attitude and motivating staff members to deliver compassionate care whilst developing themselves professionally.
Operational management duties include maintaining a safe, clean environment, monitoring and improving ward and departmental performance, budget control, clinical governance and supporting staff wellbeing through training and providing pastoral care. The post holder is professionally accountable for the standards of clinical care delivered within their unit, they will undertake and supervise clinical practice, audit, research and participate in teaching to establish, monitor and meet expectations and standards. The Post Holder requires excellent communication skills, venepuncture and cannulation skills.

To be accountable for co-ordinating patient care, the management of resources and performance of staff within the Medical Day Unit
Use a range of technique to ensure set and monitor standards of clinical practice, audit, research and teaching to set monitor and continually improve standards of care and patient experience.

To lead, manage and develop team performance, promote professionalism and trust.
Ensure effective delivery of Divisional and Organisational objectives.

Ensuring all patients prescription and medication is available on day of treatment.
Ensure patients undertake initial assessment for fitness to undergo treatment that day.
Gain consent from patients to undergo treatment.
Liaise with family, friends and relatives as required.
Ensuring patients are treated with dignity and respect.
Ensuring a discharge summary is completed for the patients General Practitioner on the same day the patient is discharged.
Completing and incident reporting using the Datix system for any near miss potential or actual incidents.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Nurse Team Manager is responsible for delivering high quality, safe patient care for the Medical Day Unit and for providing safe, effective clinical and managerial leadership including the organisation of the department, nursing workforce and prioritisation of patient assessment, care and treatments.
A main focus of the role will be to take responsibility to ensure optimal quality care and patient experience, facilitating safe and timely procedures at all times, as specified by National and Local Performance Targets. To maintain target times the post holder will actively participate in the implementation of the local, divisional and trust escalation policies.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse and hold active registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
- Degree level qualification relevant to role
- Professional qualification and training to lead the clinical team with relevant knowledge and skills for specialist area
- Management/leadership qualification/training
- Education/teaching/mentorship/coaching qualification/training
- Evidence of mandatory and statutory essential training skills, for example, Basic Life Support, manual handling, infection control, fire etc

- Masters level study relevant to role

Experience
