Agenda for Change Band 9 – £105,385 - £121,271 per annum Permanent Full time
NHS England (NHSE) have procured and are establishing a Psychological Support Service for people infected or affected by the infected blood scandal. The service is currently being rolled out across England. Newcastle Hospitals is proud to be delivering local and regional services and to provide national leadership to the IBPS.
The IBPS model has been informed by long-term research and engagement with beneficiaries. The IBPS offers specialist psychosocial assessment and psychological support across 17 localities organized into seven regions across England. The service offers initial engagement with a patient navigator who will support the beneficiary through the service, together with formulation-driven psychological interventions, and access to peer support forums.

The service involves active outreach with a straightforward entry into the service. Referrals will be managed within a national telephony and digital case management system and care will be provided both in-person or virtually.
The National Professional Lead for the Infected Blood Psychological Service will be employed by Newcastle Hospitals and will be responsible for professional leadership and oversight of the service, co-ordination of clinical delivery to ensure consistency and best use of resources nationally, working in collaboration with local and regional service providers to shape the development of services, to monitor and ensure equity of access for beneficiaries, to advise NHSE on capacity and demand, to build and maintain excellent relationships with all stakeholders including NHSE and DHSC.

Swydd-ddisgrifiad a phrif gyfrifoldebau manwl
The post holder will provide overarching professional leadership for the ongoing mobilisation of the service, will work alongside NHS England in completing and updating the design and standard operating procedures of the service e.g., developing detailed service guidance for providers, co-leading the design/mobilisation/commissioning and professional leadership of the national aspects of the service including delivery of the clinical model as well as telephony, the case management system, peer support, public facing website, professionals facing website, national communications and staff induction and development. The post holder will work closely with the NHS England team working on the ongoing mobilization. They will work with programme senior responsible owners and other stakeholders to develop and deliver the programme’s ambitions and ensure the programme is clinically focused, credible and effective.
The national professional lead will work closely with the Chief Psychological Professions Officer at Newcastle Hospitals and will deputize for the CPPO. The post holder will have an office base in Newcastle and will be expected to work in a hybrid way, given the national remit of the role.
This post is subject to the rehabilitation of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Services (formerly known as the Criminal Records Bureau) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

- A recognised professional qualification and UK statutory or PSA accredited registration in one (or more) of the following psychological professions in NHS commissioned healthcare: Practitioner Psychologist (HCPC), Psychological Therapist (ACP, BABCP, HCPC, SCoPEd) or Psychological Practitioner (BABCP or BPS).
- Educated to Doctorate or equivalent level, or experience of working at an equivalent senior level in the specialist area of psychological healthcare
- Additional specialist qualifications relevant to the Infected Blood specialism.
Knowledge & experience

- Extensive, up to date experience leading psychological / psychological professions services within an NHS Trust or equivalent.
- Senior leadership experience in the NHS/DHSC, operating at or close to Board level.
- Knowledge and experience of working in or with the DHSC, arm’s length bodies and other health organisations.
- Detailed and expert knowledge of the psychological professions landscape.
- Knowledge of evidence-based policy making and corporate NHS governance .
- Track record of delivering major change programmes to transform clinical services.
