NHS England (NHSE) have procured and are establishing a Psychological Support Service for people infected or affected by the Infected Blood scandal.
Newcastle upon Tyne NHS Trust (NuTH) are excited to provide services to local and regional beneficiaries of the Infected Blood Psychological Services. We are also excited to host the national professional leadership of the Infected Blood Psychological Service.
As national provider, NuTH will be responsible for the delivery of professional leadership of the service, and the co-ordination of clinical delivery to ensure consistency and best use of resources nationally. This will require the national provider to maintain excellent relationships with each of the elements of the service model e.g., local teams, regional navigators, peer support providers, system providers, and the wider clinical and administrative workforce supporting delivery. The programme manager will play a key national role in mobilizing services and supporting the National Professional Clinical Lead.

As programme manager, you will be responsible for the overall programme management and successful oversight of delivery of the IBPS.
You will be responsible for management of mobilisation, implementation, and strategic delivery of the service.
You will need to be comfortable with writing high-level reports for an executive audience and utilising data to inform service development. The post requires close working with clinicians, health professionals, colleagues responsible for digital and informatics aspects of delivery, wider stakeholders and patient forums across England to ensure anticipated benefits are fully realised.
You will be required to deputise for the national professional lead as and when required, to produce reports in relation to programme KPIs.
You will contribute to setting up and running an evaluation of the IBPS on an annual basis and will make a significant contribution to aspects of the IBPS strategy, which enables the IBPS to deliver its business plan and associated KPI performance.
You will be a good time manager and will be organised to ensure the timely and accurate production of programme status reports for senior management, the Trust Board and as required by NHSE.
You will have an office base with the team in Newcastle and there is an expectation that the role will be hybrid, exact working pattern to be negotiated. You’ll work closely with the wider Psychology in Healthcare team at NuTH.

You will join the Infected Blood Psychological Service at a crucial time and will make a significant contribution to shaping the national management and leadership of the service.
You’ll join a busy, friendly, supportive and thoughtful team who enjoy collaboration, innovation in the service of continually improving patient care.
- Within the Infected Blood Psychological Service one provider will host the National Professional Lead and the National Programme Manager. This provider will be the designated national provider for the service.
- The national provider will be responsible for the delivery of professional leadership of the psychological and wellbeing service, and the co-ordination of clinical delivery to ensure consistency and best use of resources nationally. This will require the national provider to maintain excellent relationships with each of the elements of the service model e.g., local therapy teams, regional navigators, peer support provider, and the wider workforce supporting delivery.
- It will also require the national provider to remain current on the performance of the service through qualitative and quantitative data. E.g., through the regular review of experience and outcomes data, establishing links to beneficiaries and providing visibility of an effective and quality service.
- The national provider may also wish to continue to meet with the stakeholder group (established during the mobilisation phase) to support the maintenance, and improvements, of the service over time.
- The national provider will also be responsible for the delivery of the service evaluations in years 2 and 3 (FY 25/26 + 26/27) Direct and effective management of projects as required within time, cost and quality parameters.
