Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. We provide a full range of hospital and community services for people in south London and as well as specialist care for patients from further afield including cancer, renal, orthopaedic, respiratory and cardiovascular services.
Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and hardworking individual to join Harefield Hospital Pharmacy team. You will provide a professional, efficient and customer focused dispensing and supply service.
The successful candidates will have good interpersonal skills, with the ability to work to a high standard within the team or on their own initiative. Main tasks will include;
- Rotating between dispensary and distribution areas, as required for the need of the service,
- To undertake accurate dispensing of prescriptions for inpatients and outpatients,
- To assist in stock management including medications that have been used out of hours,
- Working together with patient services team to ensure that non-medicinal stock is replenished in a timely manner,
- Helping to reduce patient wait times and help improve the patient’s hospital experience,
- To respond to telephone and face to face enquiries of a routine nature from patients, their representatives, members of the public and a wide range of staff groups and referring queries to the relevant member of the pharmacy team when necessary,
- To assist distribution in their daily tasks. This may include, but not limited to, ward top ups, picking stock lists, Omnicell top up and maintenance, BOC gases and Robot maintenance.

This post rotates between providing dispensing and administration support to the dispensary and working in the pharmacy stores and distribution, including at weekends, at Harefield Hospital.
To participate in inpatient and outpatient dispensing, following departmental procedures
To interact with other staff and patients both in person and over the telephone and the need to work quickly and accurately under pressure
To participate in ward and department topping up and ensuring appropriate stock rotation
To ensure that infection prevention and control is an integral part of service delivery

We work closely with our counterparts at Royal Brompton, Evelina, Guy's and St. Thomas's Hospital Pharmacies, to ensure our patients get the best possible treatment for their lung and heart conditions.

- To carry out reception duties including the answering of the telephone and receiving prescriptions from staff and patients in a courteous manner, referring to Pharmacy Technicians or Pharmacists when appropriate
- To process prescriptions from Epic, our electronic integrated system,
- To undertake accurate dispensing of prescriptions for inpatients and outpatients, in accordance with current dispensing procedures. This will include Controlled Drugs and Clinical Trials with appropriate training
- To assist the Senior Pharmacy Technicians Patient Services to maintain efficient stock control
- To participate in Bank Holiday and weekend working on a rotational basis
- To assist with the distribution of stock to the wards and departments.
- To be responsible for topping up Pharmacy stock on assigned wards and ensuring the ward stock is correctly stored and stock rotated liaising with ward pharmacists, pharmacy staff and ward staff
- To participate in the daily stock checks
- To help investigate fridge deviations using the CheckIt fridge monitoring system
- To take part in the training of Pharmacy and hospital staff as required
