Job overview
Clinical Psychology Assistant Practitioner or other suitable clinician
Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (BCHC) is looking for a Clinical Psychology Assistant Practitioner or clinical researcher from another discipline e.g. nursing or therapy with a psychology degree or research experience to contribute to the growth and development of research. The successful post holder will contribute towards the Trauma Aid study within the Learning Disability service. Research experience is desirable but not essential, however guidance will be provided by the study lead and clinical team. Activities will include supporting recruitment, updating the research database and liaising with clinical colleagues at partner sites across the UK. The successful applicant will be required to support other sites across the West Midlands.

Main Duties
1. To undertake protocol based psychological assessments of clients applying psychological,
including neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct structured
observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others
involved in the client’s care.
2. To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological
treatment and/or management of a client’s problems, under the supervision of a qualified
professional psychologist, in both community and in-patient/residential settings.
3. To assist in the coordination and running of therapeutic groups.

4. To work with other staff to assess inpatients, day patients or residents and review their
care in preparation for multi-disciplinary reviews.
5. To assist in the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and
care to the benefit of all clients of the service, across all settings where care takes place.
6. To attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings.
7. To communicate complex and sensitive information, including condition related
information to clients, relatives and care staff, as appropriate. Able to overcome
client/carer resistance to potentially threatening information.
8. To transport client files and psychological equipment as required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Teaching, training and supervision
1. In common with all clinical psychologists, to receive regular clinical supervision in
accordance with professional practice guidelines.
2. To gain wider experience of professional psychology within the NHS over and above
that provided within the principal service area where the postholder is employed.
3. To develop skills and competencies that assist in the delivery of current duties.
4. To contribute to the training and support of other staff in psychological care.
Research, audit and service evaluation
1. To assist in the design and implementation of service development projects within the
service as required.
2. To attend meetings in which service developments are planned and discussed.
3. To regularly undertake research, audit and development activity.
4. To assist in the design and implementation of audit and research projects.
5. To undertake data collection, analysis, the production of reports and summaries, using IT and statistical programmes.
6. To undertake searches of evidence-based literature and
research to assist qualified clinical psychologists in evidence based practice in individual
work and work with other team members.
UK Home Office Visa Sponsorship requirements
In accordance with UK Home Office requirements, Band 2 clinical and non-clinical roles and Band 3 Non-Clinical roles are not eligible for sponsorship.
Please note that the majority of non-clinical roles (Agenda for Change Band 3 - 6) with the exception of those which appear on this list - link, will not meet the minimum requirements set by UK Visas and Immigration to sponsor candidates to work in the UK.
All non-clinical roles (Agenda for Change Bands 7 - 9) that meet the prescribed skill level (RQF 6) and salary threshold will be eligible for sponsorship.
