We are advertising for two full time band 7 Genetic Counsellors (one permanent and one fixed term for 1 year) to join our dynamic GC team in Manchester. In particular there will be opportunities to work with the ophthalmic genetic team or neurogenetic team in addition to having a cancer genetic case load.
Applicants should be HCPC or GCRAB (or equivalent overseas) registered Genetic Counsellors, applications will be considered from suitable candidates who are due to register with the HCPC or GCRAB within the next 12 months. Overseas applicants will have a certificate for eligibility for registration with the GCRAB.
The MCGM, with a designated Genomic Laboratory Hub, is one of the biggest genetic clinical and laboratory service in the UK, at the forefront of developing education, training, research and clinical services. We have a strong commitment to education and training. The academic arm of the Scientist Training Programme (STP) in Genomic Counselling is coordinated through this department in collaboration with the University of Manchester. The clinical team also collaborate with Manchester Rare Conditions Centre and NW GMSA.
There will be opportunities for CPD through a lively programme of internal seminars and lectures, as well as access to external education and training.

You will undertake a range of genetic counsellor duties including; independent genetic counsellor clinics, pre-natal/urgent referral work, and where appropriate may help contribute to supervision or teaching of other staff members.
You must be motivated and self directed in your learning and must be able to work autonomously and in a team. You will need good multidisciplinary working skills to be able to work effectively with medical colleagues.
You will provide high quality genetic counselling and testing for a wide variety of conditions. You will also participate in our urgency rota to provide genetic counselling in demanding situations (pregnancy, NICU, PICU and urgent cancer referrals).
You will be required to attend and participate in MDT meetings and play an active role in audit.

- Professional qualification (STP Genomic Counsellor training or MSc genetic counselling, RGN, etc)
- Registered Genetic Counsellor (HCPC or GCRB) or eligible to register within 1 year
