We are excited to offer the opportunity of a full time Band 6 to Band 7 Nurse Practitioner post, working within Women's Services as part of the Urogynaecology Service, based on the Women’s Health Unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.
The role will require the post holder to have extensive knowledge and experience of gynaecology, with specific knowledge and experience of urogynaecological conditions and procedures being an advantage. The role will involve nurse led clinics, assessing and delivering care to patients attending via the urogynaecology pathway. The patient group will include a wide range of conditions such as urinary incontinence, prolapse, congenital abnormalities, mesh complications and global pelvic floor dysfunction. A range of clinical skills will be required, appropriate to care for this group of patients. This will include continence care such as bladder retraining and catheter management, urodyamics, undertaking of vaginal examination and pessary management, diagnostic treatments such as botox, amongst others.
You will be expected to be able to work autonomously but also be working as part of a well-established multi-disciplinary team.
Excellent communication and counselling skills are essential. You will be expected to be able to use I.T systems for the management of nurse led clinics.

The role will initially be as a Trainee Band 6 and once essential competencies are completed, within a period of 6 – 12 months, there will be progression to a Band 7 Urogynecology Nurse Practitioner, therefore the ability to lead and manage will also be required.
- Carry out a range of assessments and clinical procedures on patients as appropriate under urogynecology pathway within the clinic setting
- Attend MDT meetings and progress actions as appropriate
- Provide specialist advice to patients both via telephone and face to face, some of which may be complex information
- Provide specialist advice and guidance to other clinical teams
- Use communication & clinical skills to support patients mentally & physically to achieve their best outcomes
- Have excellent record keeping standards
- As a Band 7, provide leadership to enhance the service and manage the team

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust define a nurse practitioner as a qualified nurse where the primary purpose of role is to perform a specific technological procedure/s e.g. endoscopy, ultrasound in a defined patient group and/or advanced patient assessment and clinical decision making in a broad patient group.
To work towards the role of an independent nurse practitioner, contributing towards the delivery of a quality service matching clinical need to available resources within the focus of specialist nursing practice:
- To ensure that the patient is the central focus of a streamlined patient journey ensuring optimal quality of care.
- Will provide a prompt response to calls from colleagues, prioritising importance and clinical need.
- Supports the clinical team to manage a defined caseload, activity to include assessment, investigation, diagnosis and treatment within defined protocols and training.
- Provide immediate care management of patient including communication of plan to patients and significant others.
- Review and refer to appropriate person, e.g. AHP, resident medical staff, specialist registrar or critical care outreach team.
- Liaises with Patient Services Coordinator.
- Communicate within multidisciplinary team, ward/departmental staff and/or out of hour’s team.
- Contributes to specialist education and training to ward departmental staff, nursing and medical students.
