Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Job overview
Do you have an interest in physiotherapy? We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated physiotherapy assistant practitioner. You will be based at Harefield Hospital as an important member of a well-established and highly respected physiotherapy department. The role involves assisting in treating adults following cardiothoracic surgery and transplantation which will regularly involve the use of rehabilitation equipment and hoists. You will be closely supported by, and receive regular teaching from highly skilled, experienced senior physiotherapists.
We welcome applications from people who do not not hold a physiotherapy qualification. After working for GSTT for at least 1 year, there may be an opportunity to apply for a physiotherapy apprentice position.

This person will need very good organizational skills and the ability to work as a member of a busy team. It is essential to be self driven, use initiative and have very good communication skills, both with other professionals and with patients and their carers. Good IT / word processing skills are essential to be able to carry out administration and clerical duties.
There will be regular supervision, training and support from highly skilled therapists to address learning needs and personal development. They will be expected to work closely with the other members of the MDT, especially the nursing staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. The post holder will be rotational between the inpatient physiotherapy teams predominantly providing mobility practice, exercise sessions and more complex rehabilitation to patients. They will be responsible for supporting the Cardiothoracic and Transplantation Therapy team (CT&Tx) in the provision of a patient-centred service, in an efficient and cost-effective way. This may be a rotational role.
2. The post holder will assist in the provision of care to patients, supported and supervised by senior therapists.
3. The post holder will carry out clinical tasks to support the CT&Tx therapy team, such as supervision of daily individual rehabilitation delegated by qualified staff, requiring a wide range of technical ability, as well as an excellent level of interpersonal skills.
4. The post holder will carry out clinical assessments independently, within their Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner competency framework.
5. To gain the required knowledge and skills in the relevant technical, clinical and organisational procedures, and to maintain those skills working under the Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner Competency programme under the supervision of Specialist therapy teams.
6. The post holder will continue individualised rehabilitation and developmental programmes with patients and progress and review these with support from qualified therapists as appropriate.
