The Deputy Matron will work collaboratively with the Divisional Matron and be the custodians of quality nursing care. They will be accountable for aspects of nursing and midwifery within the Division and will ensure that nursing issues are taken into account by the Divisional Clinical Director and Divisional Manager. The Deputy Matron will help to lead, develop and performance manage Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) and Departmental Sisters / Charge Nurses.
The Deputy Matron will provides forward-thinking clinical and professional leadership to nursing staff at all levels within the Division, ensuring that nursing care is delivered to a high standard and that the nursing resource is managed effectively. She/he contributes to the ongoing implementation of the nursing and midwifery strategy, ensuring achievement of its objectives and proactively modernising nursing roles in accordance with the needs of patients.
She/he will also undertake the key functions of the role, including spending at least 60 per cent of their time in highly visible clinical leadership, to ensure patient experience in the wards/departments is of the highest possible standard at all times with particular emphasis on dignity and compassion.
The post holder will work in partnership with the Divisional Matron, Divisional Manager, Divisional Clinical Director, Clinical Leads and Service Managers in developing the directorate’s strategic direction and policy framework, ensuring that the directorate contributes significantly to the achievement of corporate objectives and that effective governance arrangements are implemented and maintained
