Calderdale and Huddersfield Solutions Ltd – a wholly-owned subsidiary at the Calderdale and Huddersfield Foundation Trust.
Following consideration of an in-depth feasibility study and comprehensive discussions with staff, trade unions and other stakeholders in 2017 and 2018 CHFT decided at its meeting in February 2018 to set up a wholly-owned subsidiary to manage its estates, facilities, medical engineering and procurement functions.
The subsidiary is called Calderdale and Huddersfield Solutions Ltd (CHS) and opened for business on September 1st, 2018.

Job overview
· The post holder will carry out necessary maintenance tasks to ensure the safe and continuous operation of electrical and mechanical engineering services and the building plant located in the Trust.· The post holder will undertake specific maintenance tasks and will carry out maintenance and repair across a wide range of interconnected highly complex plant and equipment. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor/ Manager.· As an Electrician you will liaise with the management team on a daily basis in order to carry out work duties and report any issues. You will also liaise with all the other members of the Estates Department on a regular basis to assist each other and share knowledge.

· Ensure maintenance and reactive building and engineering work is carried out in compliance with all appropriate guidance and legislation, including NHS HTM’s & HBN’s, British Standards, Building Regulation etc.
· To lead, design, organise, and complete small electrical installation projects, which include: lighting and power circuits, fire alarms, attack alarms, nurse call units etc.
- Maintain and test of complex electrical systems on the HRI site, to include synchronizing Diesel Generators and demand response systems.
- Arranging service interruptions, in conjunction with other clinical and non- clinical staff within the Trust, ensuring all contingencies have been identified and covered, supported by Risk Assessments, Method Statements and appropriate Permit to Work Systems.
· Fault diagnosis and planned preventative maintenance work.
- To act as Authorised/Competent Person for any associated service element as required.
- Prioritise and organise own work load within agreed guidelines with the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Allocate appropriate duties to maintenance assistants or apprentices, supervising as required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Undertake work in a safe and effective manner, complying with all relevant safety legislation, Health Technical Memorandums and manufacturers manuals and procedures; to comply with Estates Department Health & Safety Procedures Manual on any work undertaken
- Available at all times to contribute and work towards the safety and welfare of patients and other staff, and respond to any incidents e.g. fire, flood, trapped people in lifts
· First response building services failure and plant faults.
- Carry out maintenance tasks including statutory, mandatory, planned preventative and reactive maintenance
- The use of electronic devices, PDA and IPAD for work allocation and completion planned works.
- Interpret and work from all instructions, drawings and specifications appropriate to his / her background and training, often without supervision
- Assist in the setting out of new work, (identify materials for ordering and collect) using relevant tools and equipment, often without supervision
- Use a flexible approach to perform a wide range of the duties
- Manufacture, assembly, erection and installation of new work, without supervision
- Undertake specific maintenance and repairs after dedicated in house training
- Use and be competent in the use of all relevant tools and equipment within safety guidelines as necessary for the completion of works
- Learn new techniques, with training as necessary
- Have an understanding of the relationship of other engineering staff to theirs
- Liaise with and instruct others on aspects of his / her work
- Whilst undertaking out of hours duties advise Estates Officers and other Hospital Staff on maintenance issues as required
- Carry out individual technical administration, by the timely completion of works tickets and the filling in of log books in wards and departments, as required
- Participate in the emergency ‘on call’ service (after probationary period) and periodic testing of the emergency generators
- To undertake the safe use of maintenance equipment and portable tools
- To assist with emergency work as and when requested, including out of normal working hours
- Be prepared to work in hazardous areas, confined spaces and on contaminated equipment using appropriate personal protective equipment and taking all safety measures to prevent danger, avoid injury and prevent damage to equipment in accordance with Trust policy and safe working procedures i.e. the post holder will conduct risk assessments and complete action / treatment plans for all tasks
- Be fully conversant with all Trust policies and procedures including:- fire safety, infection control, Health & Safety at Work Act, COSHH Regulations and Heavy Manual Handling guidance and safe systems of work
- Undertake inspections for pre-installations and investigating services which may be required for new equipment and in the carrying out of minor installation improvement works
- Notify immediately the Estates Officers / Supervisors or equivalent of any problems within the hospital that may be a danger to staff and members of the public. To ensure that accident forms are completed and co-operate with the investigation of any incident or untoward occurrence
- Carry out site based surveys and report all defects to the appropriate manager e.g. hazard notices
- Liaise with others in assessing and evaluating quality of contractors’ work. The post holder shall also support the provision of, induction and training of new starters, apprentices and maintenance staff as part of a personal development programme
· Must be prepared to participate in the department’s on-call system.

Experience
Essential criteria
- Time served tradesperson and demonstrate post apprentice experience as electrician
- Demonstrable experience and knowledge of identifying faults/flaws from complex electrical drawings
- Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS)
- Prepared to undertake further training as required inclusive of Boiler House Management (BOAS)
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working with a multi-disciplinary Estates & Facilities Team
- Demonstrate a commitment to continuing professional development and academic progression
