South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT) provides the hospital services to South Warwickshire from four hospitals:
- Warwick Hospital
- Leamington Spa Hospital
- Stratford Hospital
- Ellen Badger Hospital
We also deliver out-of-hospital community services to the whole of Warwickshire and beyond serving a population of more than half a million from various clinics. This includes our Community Teams in North Warwickshire.
What is a Foundation Trust?
South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust was formed on 1 March 2010. A foundation trust status gives us greater freedom to manage our own affairs, and makes us more directly accountable to local people through our Members, who are drawn from the local population and staff.
We are managed by a Board of Directors and the Trust is overseen by our Council of Governors. Find out more about our organisational structure and meetings and papers.
We continue to be part of the NHS and treat patients in accordance with core NHS principles – healthcare that is provided according to clinical need, not ability to pay, that it is free at the point of delivery, and that it meets the needs of everyone.

Probationary Period
All new staff to the Trust will be subject to a standard 6 month probationary period, the details of which will duly follow in your contract of employment.

Agile and Flexible Working
All our staff will have a work base. However the Trust operates as an Agile Working Team therefore staff may be working from home on a regular basis as required by the service. At SWFT we are looking to recruit an enthusiastic compassionate and self-motivated Children’s Nurse within the Paediatric Departments at Warwick Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a rotational basis covering our Children’s Emergency Department attendances; acute paediatric ward and Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU).
The Paediatric Assessment Unit is comprised of 5 beds, taking referrals from GP’s, community specialists and The Emergency Department. MacGregor Ward comprises of 17 inpatient Paediatric beds (including High Dependency). Our busy Emergency Department attends to over 22000 children and young people annually. The post holder will be responsible for maintaining standards and quality in the day-to-day management of the unit. This role will enable you to gain and demonstrate skills in leadership and people management within the clinical environment. Your primary responsibilities will be to care for the children and young people who attend the unit, inclusive of supporting and developing junior staff by being a mentor and role model.
The postholder will:
Provide a high standard of nursing care for infants, children and young people, within a family centred environment, in accordance with department philosophy.
Provide support for junior colleagues, students, clinical leads and ward manager, adhering to national and trust guidelines.
Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to take charge of any nursing shift as required.

Organisational:
- Ensure all Trust wide and departmental processes, protocols and procedures are understood and adhered to by all staff
- Ensure strategies are in place to enable the A&E performance targets to be met; escalating, as per the Escalation Policy, to the appropriate level when needed. Completing breach analysis during each shift
- Manage staff sickness ensuring that the department has minimum safe staffing levels; escalation to Clinical Nursing Lead if appropriate cover is not maintained.
- Assist in the investigation of complaints/clinical incidents as necessary.
- Foster good working relationships with other paediatric wards and departments within the Trust
- Supervise junior staff through a shift, prioritising and delegating as appropriate
- Manage all resources to the maximum benefit of patients and the service, being aware of resource implications specific to the department
- Promote effective communication within the nursing team, to patients and carers, visitors, members of the multi-disciplinary team and external agencies, receive and report sensitive information.
- Participate in the setting, implementing and monitoring of organisation and local objectives
- Promote, and participate in, collaborative working relationships with the multi-disciplinary team.

Clinical:
- To be competent to assess, plan, delivery and manage episodes of care, participating in all aspects of care from arrival through to discharge/admission/transfer.

- Organise the method of care delivery within a clinical area; prioritising, allocating and delegating effectively.
- To identify and act upon situations which may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of patients.

- Early informal management of complaints with the aim of satisfactory resolution. Ensure appropriate escalation when this is not achieved.
- To abide by Infection Prevention and Control policies relevant to your area of work, and undertake the necessary level of training. This will be appraised through the KSF review process or other relevant professional review process.
- To accept responsibility for the provision of effective prevention and control within the Trust in liaison with the Trust's Infection Control Team.
- To act as a role model in applying good infection control practice and ensures compliance with all infection control policies.
