Knowledge

Essential criteria

Knowledge of physical and mental health conditions affecting people with learning disabilities and/or Autism, and how these are managed.
Working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act.
Understand and have experience of Risk Management including within the identified client group for the LDA H@H team.

Desirable criteria

Awareness of DOLS
Awareness of LEAPS and CETR’s

Qualifications

Essential criteria

Registered Learning Disabilities Nurse or RN Adult or RN Mental Health or RN Child with evidence of knowledge and experience of supporting the health needs of people with learning disabilities and/ or Autism.

Desirable criteria

Additional qualifications in evidenced based therapeutic interventions.
Mentor course completed or willing to complete

Further training

Essential criteria

Ability to complete comprehensive nursing assessments and devise nursing interventions.
Ability to communicate effectively with people who have difficulty understanding.
Ability to work under indirect supervision.

Experience

Essential criteria

Experience of working with people with learning disability and/ or Autism from previous employment, training placements or voluntary work.

Desirable criteria

Experience of working in an MDT
CAMHS experience or working with children and young people in other health settings.
