An exciting opportunity has arisen to join York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals Facilities Management (YTHFM) team, based at Scarborough Hospital in the Facilities department as a Decontamination (HPV/UV-C) Technician.
The role of the Decontamination Operative provides a vital service that contributes to the Trust overall Infection Prevention and Control Strategy.
You will be involved in the preparation and execution of process, ensuring cleaning, sterilising and decontamination process is delivered safely in wards, departments and non-clinical areas of the Trust buildings, and work as an integrated member of the Facilities team.
A comprehensive training programme is in operation, in which successful candidates participate to ensure proficient in the safe use of the UV-C and HPV decontamination equipment.
The role is physically demanding, lifting, and handling Decontamination equipment and long periods of standing. It is necessary to transport equipment around the Trust sites.
Successful candidates will have a flexible approach to work and work well under pressure, possess excellent communication skills, eagerness, and ability to learn.
Overtime/additional hours may also be available at times, for those who wish to do this.
The successful candidate will be based at Scarborough Hospital but must be willing to work at any of the Trust's sites when required, and therefore must be willing to travel.
Advert
- Prepare rooms, environments, and equipment for decontamination, in accordance with standard operating procedures, and on completion of deployment ensure all checks are completed and the area is safe.
- Clean the environment and utilise specialist equipment, to ensure a safe deployment.
- Check all equipment prior and following deployments, to identify any faults within the equipment, and report accordingly by the appropriate channel.
- Ensure compliant documentation is retained and recorded.
- Ensure the health and safety of those within the environment is maintained throughout any deployments, and work in accordance with the Department’s Standard Operating Procedures and risk assessments.
- Across site working maybe required at times.
- Monitoring stock levels and ordering.
- When not deployed in HPV the operative will carry out tasks in the Domestic and Facilities Services team.

DBS Checks
Please be aware that all new employees starting work with us will be charged for the cost of their DBS check if it is required for the role. - Inivos Equipment user Certificate - HPV and UV-C undertaken work - based assessment programme within the first 12 months

Experience and Knowledge required
Essential criteria
- Knowledge and Experience of Specialist Cleaning
- Knowledge of NHS policies, Statutory regulations and legislation relating to Health and Safety at work and Risk Management
- Previous experience in the cleaning Industry, including technical aspects of the job eg Machinery, Cleaning materials, Stock control management products and Processes, infection control issues.
- Experience of working and Communicating with colleagues/ Members of the Public/ Customers/ Clients
- Involvement in Training and development.
