An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Band 6 Technician position to manage the Pharmacy Procurement Team. We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic Pharmacy Technician to oversee the purchasing, receipt, sale and invoicing of all drugs, pharmaceuticals and sundries daily for the pharmacy department.
The Newcastle Hospitals Foundation Trust have a monthly drug expenditure of £11 million for the Pharmacy Procurement Team. We generate approximately 4,000 Orders per month, 10,000 Order items per month, and 6,000 invoices per month.

- Work closely with the Senior Lead Procurement Pharmacist and Specialist Lead Procurement Technician concerning operational issues within the business office
- Manage and motivate pharmacy office staff and oversees all duties carried out by them in relation to ordering, goods received, invoicing, sales and medicines management reporting. Communicates operational changes to those duties and advises on problems arising from them
- Undertaking the professional role of a registered Technician, including advice, supervision and co-operation with colleagues
- Ensures the smooth transmission of pharmacy orders for the Trust with pharmaceutical suppliers
- Overseeing the purchasing, receipt, and sale and invoicing of all drugs, pharmaceuticals and sundries on a daily basis for the pharmacy department
- Providing liaison with Financial Management to facilitate the reconciliation of the Pharmacy and Finance computer systems
- Acting as system administrator for both the Pharmacy computer and Powergate systems
- Work closely with the Contracts and Claims Pharmacy Technician to support completion of RXInfo Exend Better Value Procurement reports
- Support delivery of agreed CIP switches
- Ensure compliance with GPhC requirements

The successful candidate will be a GPhC registered hospital technician with an S/NVQ 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent and significant post registration experience plus recent experience of managing staff. Specialist knowledge and understanding of all technical aspects of pharmacy procurement services, supported by practical experience and completion of an approved training programme is essential.
Additionally they will be able to demonstrate:
- Excellent interpersonal, leadership skills and team building abilities
- Numerate and accurate and able to maintain these skills in a busy environment

- Negotiation, tact, diplomacy and political skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
