This post is required to replace our ward manager who is moving on due to career progression.
Jade Ward is a ward for Children and Adolescents with Learning Disabilities who require treatment in hospital and a discharge plan to successfully return to a life in the community with the support and care they deserve. The ward benefits from a well established nursing and care assistant team and a full MDT as well as it’s own school and teaching staff.
This role is critical to our retention strategy, ensuring the ward team benefits from visible management and supervision and it enables a firm career structure for succession planning.
Full time and part time applicants will be considered, though a minimum of 30 hrs is required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- The post holder is responsible for ensuring that service users have comprehensive treatment packages from admission through to discharge are facilitated
- The post holder will actively support / develop user involvement in all aspects of their care / treatment
- Ensure patient observations are carried out and recorded in line with Trust policy, contributing to every decision to instigate, discontinue or change the levels of person observations and sharing this information with patients, staff and the wider multi-disciplinary team (MDT)
- Ensure the positive behavioural support model is applied in practice and ensure that restrictive practices are challenged, and that low arousal techniques and non-aversive practice are implemented
- The post holder is responsible for the day-to-day management of the unit including the management of the physical, procedural and relational security standards required for the unit
- The post holder is responsible for the management of the direct care team within the unit comprising of Qualified Nurses (Staff Nurses and Deputy Managers), Nursing Associates, Assistant Practitioners, Health Care Assistants and Support staff

- Motivate and encourage nursing staff and other professional colleagues in reviewing their practice to support innovation and change and optimise clinical effectiveness
- Recognise own limits seeking appropriate specialist support and supervision
- Promote a positive and open culture both within the clinical areas and across the service
- Maintain the physical care and procedural and relational security of patients, colleagues and self in line with current policy and practice
- Contribute to maintaining security, observing local policies and procedures in relation to risk
- Ensure the safe use and care of security equipment, e.g. Pinpoint Alarms, two-way radios, mobile phones etc
- As part of the management team contribute to ensuring that appropriate clinical supervision is provided to all nursing staff
- Ensure the unit is managed within an agreed financial envelope and allocate resources as appropriate
- To have a knowledge of the CQC requirements within an inpatient setting and ensure adherence at all times.
