An exciting opportunity to work within the Lung Cancer directorate at Wythenshawe hospital as a member of the Lung cancer nurse specialist time.
The post holder will be a member of the Macmillan Lung Cancer CNS team and provide key contact for all patients and relatives throughout the lung cancer pathway, including diagnostics, surgery, chemotherapy, living with and beyond cancer and palliative and end of life care.
The Lung Cancer CNS works as part of a larger Lung Cancer team to support the patients, and working alongside and closely with Diagnostic, Surgical and Oncology teams.
The Lung Cancer CNS will have responsibility to work within the Macmillan Lung Cancer CNS team in relation to education, audit and research in relation to the care of lung cancer patients
2 x positions 37.5 hours
Work as part of the Specialist Lung Cancer Team within outpatient clinics, daycase units, inpatient settings
Undertake comprehensive health care needs assessments of patients, reassessing as necessary, ensuring individualized needs are considered. Planning and evaluating care and interventions as appropriate
Support patients to access all information required, as and when appropriate to them, supporting them with decision making throughout the pathway
To provide advice, expertise information and support to health practitioners within the Trust and promote standards of practice
To support the lead nurse in the application of national and local standards and pathways in lung cancer care within the Trust and to deputise as required
To assist in providing staff training in the care of this client group
To contribute towards the implementation and evaluation of policies and procedures
To ensure that timely and effective communication enhances service provision
Ensure visibility within clinical areas
Participate in the development of MDT/ team objectives for the service/speciality
Act as a role model for standards of behaviour and professionalism, through commitment to the integration of policies and procedures within role and workplace
Bring relevant national information, policies and guidelines that may impact on service to the attention of the MDT and senior nurses.
