Apprentice Clinical Engineering Technologist
– Band 5 *Annex 21
We have an exciting opportunity to recruit three Level 6 Apprentice Clinical Engineering Technologist to work within our Clinical Engineering team. The successful candidate will follow a 3-year programme of academic and on-the-job training that will open a career as a Clinical Engineering Technologist.
Clinical Engineering is an essential clinical support service within our hospitals, providing whole life equipment management services for the range of medical equipment used to diagnose and treat patients throughout our hospitals. We are a dedicated team of around 37 members of staff based in workshops across the Trust.
On successful completion of the programme, the Apprentice Clinical Engineering Technologist will gain an apprenticeship qualification as a Healthcare Science Practitioner at Level 6. The programme incorporates on-the-job training with protected time to study relevant scientific and engineering knowledge and skills, (off-the-job), through a combination of day release and online learning whilst completing a degree apprenticeship at the University of the West of England situated in Bristol.
We are looking for three apprentices to join the department who pay attention to detail, are not afraid to ask questions and are able to learn fast on the job, whilst balancing the needs of their apprenticeship training.

During the training period the Apprentice Clinical Engineering Technologist will develop expertise through theoretical study (university education), technical and practical training to enable them to carry out planned and corrective maintenance tasks, acceptance testing of equipment, calibration of test equipment, routine maintenance, and corrective repairs on medical devices to ensure equipment operates safely and effectively with a minimum downtime for service users and patients.
The Apprentice Clinical Engineering Technologist will be able to build up their knowledge of the work of the services as they become competent in specific tasks, gradually increasing in complexity during the three-year training course

This will be a Fixed Term Contract for 36 months. You will be paid Annex 21, Band 5 *Annex 21 – as follows:
Year 1 = 65% top of band 5 (£31,010.95)
Year 2 = 70% top of band 5 (£32,835.10)
Year 3 = 75% top of band 5 (£34,659.25)
This will be a two-stage process for shortlisted candidates:
1st stage – Group assessments – 16 June 2025 – morning
2nd stage – Individual interviews on successful completion of the assessment – 16 June 2025 - afternoon
