Job overview
The Freeman hospital is seeking a dynamic, forward thinking electrical engineering supervisor to lead our electrical maintenance team within a complex and fast-paced healthcare environment. This role is ideal for an ambitious, innovative professional; who is eager to drive excellence in a vital support service at one of the United Kingdom’s most renowned hospitals. The Supervisor will ensure compliance with all safety standards and procedures whilst ensuring completion of all statutory, mandatory and policy PPMs; as well as managing general repairs. Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Responsible for the direct technical supervision of specialist craftsperson's in the planned maintenance of, and emergency response to, complex engineering infrastructure to ensure the effective performance of all building services, plant, equipment, structures and fabric to ensure the trust Estate is maintained in a safe condition.
This will include:
- Act as Authorised Person (Limited Duties) as defined by Health
Technical Memorandum’s for the Low Voltage Distribution Systems across
the Estate - Responsible for the management and supervision of Competent Persons
in the completion of technically specialist tasks - Day to day management of software and hardware systems used by the
maintenance compliance function - Quality Inspection
- To manage minor works projects as directed
- Participate in the shift out of hours rota
- To ensure cover is provided in the event of unplanned circumstance
- To provide Estates support to Capital Projects and other organisations when
required - Raise and approve of orders within defined parameters in line with Trust
Standing Financial Instructions - Monitor the performance of the maintenance teams. Identifying performance, targets and providing regular reports on performance which identify areas for improvement
- Provide regular highlight reports for compliance areas as required.
Identify and deliver cost improvement opportunities and service efficiencies that may improve the organisation’s operations. - Ensure that all risks and issues are identified, addressed and mitigated or notified appropriately.

- Qualified to degree level or HNC/HND with equivalent knowledge gained through experience, in an electrical engineering discipline with significant relevant post qualification experience

- Have specialist knowledge of complex engineering systems in a healthcare environment.
- Be fully conversant with the latest Trust Codes of Practice/all relevant Trust Policies and Procedures
- The use of Computer Aided Facilities Management systems.
- Technical report writing.
- Supervision of teams of technical craftsperson’s in the delivery of planned maintenance and emergency response to a range of complex engineering systems.
- Previous experience in managing compliance areas such as legionella, ventilation, asbestos and electrical at management level.
- Broad knowledge of H&S legislation and requirements in compliance and maintenance services. HTM’s, HBN’s, emergency procedures and systems
- Line management responsibility for staff including all HR aspects including sickness management, annual leave, etc
- Understanding of the safe management of electrical distribution systems as outlined in the Health Technical Memorandum suite of documents and other related legislation.
- Understanding of the requirements of legislation around the building services in a healthcare environment including but not limited to, HASAWA, PUWER, LOLER, EAWR, PSSR, Control of Asbestos, etc.
- Management of Planned Maintenance Schedules in line with statutory, mandatory and best practice requirements.
Desirable criteria
- In depth knowledge of contractual procedures and Trust SFIs relating to major and minor capital projects, maintenance & service contracts.
- Understanding of the requirements for Health Technical Memorandum Authorised Person Electrical Distribution Systems (HV).

Essential criteria
- Excellent communication and leadership skills required to communicate with multi-disciplinary internal and external agencies, consultants and other specialists.
- Must be able to negotiate and have developed skills to convey new policy/procedure changes around specialist services and speak publicly when required.
- Ability to work on-call providing technical support.
- Be capable of managing a multi trade workforce and equipment, on a wide range of technical, plant equipment and services
- Demonstrate the ability to supervise teams of technical personnel in the Maintenance and repair of engineering systems in a healthcare environment.
- Ability to communicate highly technical information to technical and nontechnical individuals including, clinical staff and external agencies.
