Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. We provide a full range of hospital and community services for people in south London and as well as specialist care for patients from further afield including cancer, renal, orthopaedic, respiratory and cardiovascular services.
Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research.

The Band 5 Staff Nurse provides high-quality, evidence-based care from admission to discharge, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care. They work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure patient safety, dignity, and person-centred care. Key duties include conducting clinical observations, administering medications (including blood products), and providing safe discharge planning.
The nurse practices in accordance with the NMC Code and Trust policies, maintaining professional accountability and engaging in ongoing professional development. They ensure compliance with health and safety, safeguarding, infection control, and information governance standards.
Effective communication is essential; the nurse provides and receives sensitive information, documents care accurately, and liaises with patients, families, and colleagues. They may also supervise junior staff, coordinate shifts, and contribute to team meetings and case conferences.
Additionally, they support education and training by mentoring students and new staff, acting as role models. Flexibility in working patterns, including nights and weekends, is required to meet service needs.

be delivered through the Evelina Practice Development hub and
evaluate all training. - Work in collaboration with the GSTT Education, Training &
Development department, and the service managers to ensure
appropriate training is commissioned for the workforce. Holding the
central database for commissioning of courses. - Plan, implement and evaluate a range of teaching and learning
programmes and opportunities to meet the learning outcomes and
needs of the staff. - Undertake relevant train-the-trainer training (as agreed by the HON)
in order to provide in-house training for the workforce. - Provide support to other staff in relation to training and development.
- Participate in the assessment and monitoring of quality relating to all
education and training activities of the Hub. - Undertake competency assessments of staff, on request.
- Promote the use of best practice and research throughout own
teaching and practice and encouraging the wider workforce to
demonstrate evidence based practice.
