Duties of Post – provided as an example (not exhaustive)

 ·       Attendance at outpatient clinics

·         Attendance at ward rounds, operating theatre sessions

·         Day to day management of in patients under the team’s care

·         Checking pathology and radiology reports ensuring that appropriate action is taken

·         Informing therapy staff as necessary regarding the treatment of in patients.

·         Collecting and presenting data for clinical audit meetings.

·         Signing death certificates and personally notifying deaths to HM Coroner where necessary and after discussion with the Consultant if required

·         Keep medical records and electronic records in the manner prescribed by the Trust

·         Cover for colleagues in the Department during periods of leave. Deputise as required for absent colleagues.

·         Participation in out of hours working (where required and subject to Host Trust requirements)

These duties apply in common to both NHS and private patients.

Emergencies and Unforeseen Circumstances

The International Training Fellow accepts that he will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate Consultant, in consultation where practicable with his colleagues both Senior and Junior. It has been agreed between the profession and the Department that while Juniors accept that they will perform such duties, the Secretary of State stresses that additional commitments arising under this subsection are exceptional and, in particular, that Juniors should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis.

Annual Leave

All full time International Training Fellows will be entitled to 27 days leave per year plus 8 Bank Holidays. All applications for annual leave, should be approved by the Consultants and submitted on the appropriate form to the appropriate person and managed by the Host Trust, under local policy and procedure.

Study Leave

All International Training Fellows will be entitled to 10 days Study Leave per year. All applications for Study Leave and any associated expenses should be submitted by Application to the appropriate person and managed by the Host Trust, under local policy and procedure.

Responsibility for Teaching

Your employment as an International Training Fellow requires you to actively progress in your training and requires your employer to support the established Programme education curriculum

Work Circumstances & on-call

The standard full-time working week is 40 hours per week, your actual hours will be no more than 48 hours per week on average and will be as set out in your job plan. If you are required to participate in an out of hours working pattern you will receive the appropriate pay premia in line with the Locally Employed Doctors Terms and Conditions.
