Clinical

Be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own work including the management of patients in own care. Ensure a high standard of clinical care for patients under own management and support more junior staff to do likewise.

Interpret and analyse clinical and non-clinical facts to form accurate diagnosis and prognosis in on wide range of highly complex conditions to recommend the best course of intervention, evaluate outcomes, reassess and to develop comprehensive rehabilitation plans.

Undertake comprehensive assessment of patients including those with complex presentation, investigate and analyse skills and formulate individualised management and treatment plans to formulate specialised programmes of care.

Assess patient understanding of treatment proposals and gain informed consent in order to work within the legal framework for patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.

Accept clinical responsibility for own caseload and organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to the clinical progress the patient. Oversee/supervise the caseload of more junior staff and peers to ensure patients are prioritised according to acuity of need across the service areas.

Provide highly specialist clinical technical services contributing to diagnosis, care of treatment within the speciality as appropriate.

Maintain a clean safe environment ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness hygiene and infection control at all times.

Deliver training to on-call Physiotherapy staff to ensure competence in carrying out duties within the service area, when providing an on call services.

To contribute to out of hours working as required and appropriate.

Regularly participate in working parties developing policy changes within the Physiotherapy Department and other specialities within the Clinical Support group.

Provide spontaneous and planned advice, teaching and instruction to relatives, carers and other professionals to promote understanding of the aims of the Physiotherapy Department and to ensure a constant approach to patient care.

Provide specialist advice, teaching and training to other members of the MDT regarding the management of patients.

Regularly manage expected and unexpected clinical events requiring high and unpredictable levels of physical effort according to patient dependency and clinical need.

Communicates effectively and appropriately with all stakeholders managing highly complex and sensitive information form an organisational perspective down to individual level with patients and carers.

To be responsible for ordering and maintain Physiotherapy equipment.

Professional

Abide by the appropriate professional body and the Health and Care Professions Council standards of proficiency.

Maintain own clinical professional development by keeping abreast of any new trends and developments and incorporate them as necessary into own work.

Complete mandatory training as required by Trust policy.

Be an active member of the in service training programme by attendance & delivering presentations and training at staff meetings, tutorials, and training sessions.

Communicate effectively, plan, organise and work collaboratively with medical nursing and therapy colleagues to ensure the delivery of a co-ordinated multidisciplinary service.

Participate in the staff appraisal scheme as both appraiser and appraisee.

Assist with recruitment and selection as required.

Undertake the measurement and evaluation of own and current best practice regularly to make recommendations for change implementation.

Comply with organisational, professional and Trust policies and procedures and be actively involved in reviewing and adapting as appropriate to own specialist field.

With support from Pathway Leads and Children’s Physiotherapy lead, to contribute and lead on aspects of clinical governance including audit in specialist area/areas and participate in programmes for other areas to support peers as appropriate.

Organisational

Assist with the implementation of change and evaluation of changes to service provision for the services.

Develop excellent relationships with all members of the team and other appropriate therapy leads to ensure optimal delivery of therapy services.

Review and recommend developments for future delivery of the therapy services for patients ensuring the most clinically effective use of resources.

Demonstrate effective prioritisation between clinical commitments and operational responsibilities.

To act as a specialist resource, supporting and motivating other staff members in SWFT.

Maintain accurate comprehensive and up to date documentation and communicate assessment and treatment results to appropriate disciplines.

With support from Pathway Leads and Children’s Physiotherapy lead, take a lead for the information management within service area to provide managers with activity data in a timely manner.

Be aware of health and safety aspects of own work and that of more junior staff and implement relevant policies.

When required, to deputise for the Pathway Leads or Children’s Physiotherapy lead during periods of absence, to attend meetings and provide support to peers during this absence.

Other Duties

To be knowledgeable and proficient in the use of Microsoft Office including Word and Excel as well as excellent word processing skills.

Competent in the use of IT systems relevant to the role including Lorenzo and DIGIT.

To be accountable for own actions and be able to recognise own boundaries, seeking advice as appropriate.

To assist (the lead Therapist) in the investigation and completion of Incident Reporting, Patient Complaints and Concerns Monitoring processes, in order to improve the Team’s performance and quality of service for patients.
