Job overview
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic individual to the position of Forensic Support Officer at Saint Mary’s Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC), to provide the forensic service with practical and administrative support.
This is a full-time position typically working between the hours 0900-1700.
The successful applicants will receive full training to support the needs of the forensic service.
You will have some previous experience of clinical or laboratory environment. High quality standards are essential at Saint Mary’s, so the position requires excellent organisational and record keeping skills, and attention to detail.

- Provide support to the Crisis Worker team in practical and administrative tasks.
- Ensure forensic integrity and cleaning of the forensic suite following an examination.
- Assist in management of forensic stock, consumables ordering, stock checks and rotation.
- Assist in the storage and management of forensic samples and evidence.
- Conduct daily, weekly and monthly checks of the forensic suites.
The post holder should be comfortable using computers to create and maintain highly accurate records.
The post holder will be required to work in personal protective equipment (PPE) when in the forensic area, potentially for several hours at a time.
The post holder must be willing to have elimination DNA sample taken and held on database for the duration of employment, +24 months.
The post holder must be willing to have and pass a Disclosure and barring service (DBS) check, and renewals during employment.

- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience.

- Forensic Science qualification
- GCSE or A level in scientific subject
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Understanding of issues relating to rape and sexual assault including Awareness of forensic activity
- Evidence of continuing personal development
- Experience of working within a health setting
- Experience of working with confidential information
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in a forensic science environment
- Awareness of the role of anticontamination in forensic science activities
- Awareness of the Forensic Science Regulator
