Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Job overview
We are pleased to announce a vacancy in search of a Production Pharmacist at our St Thomas' site covering PN and CIVAS.
We are seeking an enthusiastic pharmacist with a keen interest in aseptic services and quality management to join and operationally lead our PN service and CIVAS unit. You will work closely with clinical, pharmacy and other operational management teams to provide a patient-focused service. You will also work closely with our large multi-disciplinary clinical trials team, providing innovative treatments.
We are looking for a candidate who ideally has experience in aseptic services and pharmaceutical quality assurance, with a desire to progress in these areas.
Joining our aseptic services team at Guy's & St Thomas' is an exciting proposition, with significant aseptic estates development planned over the next five years and growing demand for clinical trials, CIVAS, cancer treatments and advanced therapies. The CIVAS unit has recently undergone a refurbishment project, and will be utilising the latest technology, including particle counting and gassing isolators.

- To act as an authorised pharmacist responsible for the provision of CIVAS and PN products prepared and released under Section 10 exemption.
- To manage the day-to-day operations of the CIVAS and PN units, and work collaboratively with staff in the unit and wider pharmacy and clinical teams.
- To ensure service delivery meets the needs of our patients.
- To ensure the requirements of the site quality management system are complied with as required by Quality Assurance of Aseptic Preparation Services (QAAPS), national and NHS guidance.
- To work with the Clinical Trials team in delivering clinical trials for GSTT and commercial sponsored trials to ensure full preparation and clinical regulatory compliance.
Working for our organisation
Guy's & St Thomas' Technical Services has one of the country's largest manufacturing facilities, split across a number of sites and involves around 140 staff working in licensed manufacturing and named patient dispensing areas. Services include aseptic preparation of CIVAS and chemotherapy, sterile and non-sterile manufacturing, clinical trials, quality control and quality assurance.
There is a wide range of expertise throughout the department and many opportunities to learn and develop from technical experts.
