Are you an experienced and enthusiastic speech and language therapist looking to join our innovative service supporting adults with learning disabilities.
What do we aim for?

You will provide specialist speech and language therapy to people with a range of learning disabilities and associated problems e.g. sensory impairments, mental health problems and physical disabilities, in their homes, colleges, local communities, day centres and work places.
You will receive one to one clinical support, professional development and regular supervision. Giving you the opportunity to further develop your skills in a variety of clinical areas such as AAC, dysphagia management, complex health needs, autism, risky behaviours, access to internal and external courses and much more.
We currently have access to specialist IT systems to help support and get the most out of our patients. These systems include Boardmaker.
You will be working alongside a multi-disciplinary team which is made up of physiotherapy, clinical psychology, community nursing, occupational therapy and social workers.
As a multi-disciplinary team you will also work with colleagues in the wider LCO, acute and paediatric services across the trust. You will also work with colleagues from a variety of other agencies e.g. Adult and children’s Social Care, Greater Manchester Police, Pure Innovations, carer forums.

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team within the Community Adult Learning Disability Team, providing specialist speech and language therapy to adults with mild, moderate, severe and profound learning disabilities, including both communication and dysphagia.
Work will be undertaken in a variety of settings depending on the needs of the clients and carers. Our client basis is socially, culturally and linguistically diverse.
You will take responsibility for devising, monitoring and evaluating specialist programmes of care for other professionals and/or carers to carry out.
You will work flexibly to manage own time efficiently to, for example plan and organise activities, prioritise tasks to meet deadlines, balance project and client based work.

Qualifications

- RCSLT accredited degree or equivalent Certificate to Practice as a speech and language therapist (SLT)
- Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration
- Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language T Post graduate basic certificate in dysphagia issued by a course recognised by RCSLT therapists

- Membership of a relevant Clinical Excellence Network (CEN)
Knowledge

- Demonstrate detailed knowledge of the different conditions associated with adults with learning disabilities e.g. mental health, physical disability, sensory impairments, physical illnesses and degenerative conditions
- Knowledge of dysphagia assessment and management strategies
- In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation /trends within the NHS and Social Care
Experience

- Demonstrable and relevant experience of working as a speech and language therapist with adults with learning disabilities
- Experience of working collaboratively and successfully within a multi-disciplinary team and with relatives and carers
- Experience of working within a relevant specialist area e.g. dysphagia, challenging behaviour

- Devise & deliver training for colleagues & carers about dysphagia & adults with learning disabilities
