Job overview
We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well integrated team. We will consider both full time and less than full time applicants. Following significant new investment from the Trust, expansion of our medical and specialist nursing team is currently in progress.
This post will include responsibility for patients across a broad spectrum of rheumatology. This will include being part of our Inflammatory Arthritis Service, including the National Early Inflammatory Arthritis Audit and opportunity to join our Spondyloarthritis team. The successful applicant will be responsible for a mixed caseload of both new patients and inheritance of some existing follow up patients. The role will include involvement in our regular multidisciplinary team meetings, supporting our specialised commissioned services and regional advice provision.

We have a busy dedicated musculoskeletal outpatient department (including Xray and DEXA facilities), a day case unit and in patient beds.
In addition to the clinical role, we can offer you a commitment to teaching, education, research and audit. We are keen to support applicants who now or in the future wish to develop an interest in medical education.
The post includes contribution to the low frequency rheumatology on-call service for speciality referrals only and management of a small number of in patients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· The successful candidate will share responsibility for running and ensuring best practice in our rheumatology service.
· This will include supervision and training of junior doctors, clinical nurse specialists, clinical pharmacists, and allied health professionals.
· Active contribution to the multidisciplinary team meetings (where relevant this can include for inflammatory arthritis, AxSpA, metabolic bone, radiology, histopathology plus local and regional connective tissue disease MDT meetings)
· Provision of long term care to an existing cohort of patients and management of new referrals.
· Contribute medical support to the multidisciplinary team and ensure training and safety standards are met.
· Set up regular audit and quality improvement cycles.
· Involvement in the department’s participation with teaching across the medical undergraduate and graduate curriculum and support supervision and clinical oversight of AHP and nursing departmental teaching.

Education, Qualifications and Specialist Skills
Essential criteria
- Primary Medical Qualification.
- Full GMC Registration.
- Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register (within 6 months from the date of the AAC).
Desirable criteria
- Special skills training in the specialty.
- Evidence of participation in clinical trials at sub PI and PI level
- Higher Degree.
- GCP certification
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Evidence of experience in the specialty.
- Evidence of a substantial commitment to the specialty.
- Ability to offer an expert clinical opinion within the speciality.
- Ability to take independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients referred to a tertiary centre.
Desirable criteria
- Awareness of national commissioning policies and prescribing practice in rheumatology sub specialty areas.
Management and Administration Experience
Essential criteria
- Involvement with management and project leadership within the specialty.
- Evidence of involvement in authoring or reviewing clinical guidelines.
- An understanding of Clinical Governance.

- Proven management and administrative experience and understanding of management goals.

Teaching

- Experience of supervising junior medical staff.

Research

- Evidence of involvement in and understanding of research methodology and publication of findings.
