Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. We provide a full range of hospital and community services for people in south London and as well as specialist care for patients from further afield including cancer, renal, orthopaedic, respiratory and cardiovascular services.
Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.

We are pleased to announce a vacancy in search of a Releasing Pharmacist at our St Thomas' site covering PN and CIVAS.
In this role, you'll be involved in the day-to-day operations of the PN and CIVAS units.
You will help support releasing activities of aseptically prepared products, sign off the aseptic unit for use, and support the senior teams with deviations, change controls, actions and quality risk assessments.
We're seeking a candidate with good attention to detail, a strong team player and an excellent communicator.
You will develop expertise in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and use your understanding to inspire and ensure regulatory compliance across all preparation activities.
Joining our aseptic services team at Guy's & St Thomas' is an exciting proposition, with our CIVAS unit having recently undergone a refurbishment project. There is also significant aseptic estates development planned over the next five years and growing demand for clinical trials, cancer treatments, CIVAS and advanced therapies.

Main duties and summary of key performance areas:
- Act as an authorised pharmacist responsible for the provision of CIVAS products prepared and released under Section 10 exemption.
- Help develop product monographs, lifecycle and stability assessments for CIVAS products.
- Understand and support clinical trials requiring aseptic preparation from the St Thomas' aseptic unit for GSTT- and commercial-sponsored trials.
- Take part in the Quality Management system with the support of the Senior Aseptic Pharmacist.
- Oversee the outsourcing of Parenteral Nutrition (PN) to ensure this is a safe and efficient service.
- Ensure accurate ordering of bespoke PN for paediatric, neonate and adult patients.
- Understand the importance of each component of PN, including macronutrients, electrolytes, trace elements and vitamins, to assist with stability and ordering queries.
- Ensure safe dispensing of standard and bespoke PN.
- Checking of PN orders.
- Understand safe operating parameters of the air handling unit, clean air devices, and staff cleaning and monitoring activities to sign off the unit as safe for use.
- Oversee changes within the unit to progress the development of the service, and review of new products and requests in conjunction with the Accountable Pharmacist and Associate Chief Pharmacist.
- To be able to raise Datix reports and assist in the identification, escalation and management of risk.

Guy's & St Thomas' Technical Services has one of the country's largest manufacturing facilities, split across a number of sites and involves around 140 staff working in licensed manufacturing and named patient dispensing areas. Services include sterile and non-sterile manufacturing, clinical trials, quality control and quality assurance as well as aseptic preparation of CIVAS and chemotherapy.
