Job overview
NHSE England is recruiting an Academy Lead [Diagnostics Radiography] on a secondment for a fixed term basis for the South East Imaging Training Academy.
The post holder will sit within the NHSE South East Cancer and Diagnostics Programme team and will be instrumental in leading the ongoing development and implementation of the south east Imaging Training Academy.
The purpose of the Academy Lead [Diagnostic Radiographer], in partnership with the Academy Lead [Consultant Radiologist] is to provide South East regional leadership for the delivery of high quality, cross specialty, and multi-professional Imaging training, through leading the South East Imaging Training Academy, and the core academy team.
The successful candidate will be passionate about the delivery and management of imaging education and training in the South East. They will promote and strengthen the practice of lifelong learning along the professional development continuum from qualification to retirement. The successful candidate will show an understanding of important contribution made by all members of the multi-professional health care team, including support staff as well as clinicians.
Please note that the reason for the fixed term basis of this secondment is funding availability only until 31 March 2026.

The overall aim is to increase the number of learners transitioning to the workforce utilising an academy model to increase training capacity, provide a high quality and enhanced training experience and accelerate learning to independent practice.
The successful candidate should have excellent understanding of and evidence of involvement in the delivery and management of imaging education and training, experience as a senior clinician with HCPC registration working in the field of imaging in the UK, a transformation leadership style, and experience in strategic thinking, problem solving and calculated risk management.
This role will be integral to the development of the academy and will be responsible for providing leadership aligned to the aims of the academy. The key outputs from the role will be:
- increased training capacity across a region
- provision of multi-professional training across a team
- provision of flexible and high-quality training environments for the imaging workforce, including clinical radiology, diagnostic radiography and sonography, medical physicists and imaging & mammography support workforce
- Enabled immersive training in priority areas to support the rapid development of skills to support learning trajectory
- optimisation of available teaching faculty

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
In partnership with the Academy Lead (Radiologist), key elements of the job role will include:
- Provide and receive highly complex, sensitive and contentious information, including presenting information about projects and dependencies to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders in formal settings including NHSE; ICS Diagnostic Leads; NHS Trusts; Imaging Networks; Education Providers; NHSE SE Quality Teams.
- Employ effective communication, negotiation and influencing skills to enable an effective change management with stakeholders at all levels (including senior management) who may hold differing and contentious views
- To work with others, including the NHSE SE AHP Lead, the NHSE SE Regional Postgraduate Dean, the NHSE SE Schools of Radiology, and the NHSE SE Cancer & Diagnostics Programme Team to develop further consistency and commonality across education and training in England
- Ensuring high standards of education and training as defined by the Nursing & Midwifery Council, the Health and Care Professions Council, the General Medical Council, and other national bodies with respect to education and training in the South East.
- Commitment to regional and national vision, policies, and processes for effective educational quality management.
- Responsible for ensuring programmes of work are aligned to and successfully deliver regional strategic objectives, KPIs and regulatory compliance.
- Responsible for the delivery of programmes against short, medium and long-term key performance indicators. Delegating delivery of work, ensuring the appropriate allocation of internal/external resources/expertise to deliver the programmes as required to ensure strategic objectives are met.
