An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse within the Great North Children’s Hospital, on Ward 1a.

Ward 1a is a 22 bedded unit, which specialises in Paediatric General Medicine, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, and Immunology/Infectious Diseases. We are a busy fast paced ward where there is constant opportunity to learn and grow. We care for babies, children and adolescents. 

In this role you will provide leadership and senior nursing support to our patients, their families and the Ward 1a team. You will support the Senior Sister and management team in the day to day running of the unit. You will be expected to maintain high standards of care on the ward and support the team to ensure they deliver those same high standards. You will ensure compliance of all governance frameworks, motivate colleagues and champion continuous ward and directorate improvements. You will support staff wellbeing and safety on the ward.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced Children's Nurse who is an outstanding role model with excellent communication skills and self-motivation. You need to be passionate and driven about paediatric nursing care and leadership. You will be involved in leading a team of staff to ensure the delivery of high quality, safe care to patients. The successful candidate will be required to act as a deputy and effectively manage the ward and it’s nursing resource when the Senior Sister is absent, as well as supporting them in the day-to-day management of the unit. A commitment to staff development and training is essential. You must be committed providing a seamless service, upholding high professional standards.
