Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology - Applicants are invited to apply for this post supporting the delivery of Dental and maxillofacial Diagnostic Imaging. The successful candidate will have experience in Dental and maxillofacial Imaging and support the clinical team in developing a range of services reliant on this Imaging. In addition, they should have experience in teaching junior and midlevel clinicians in this discipline. They should have a proven track record in ability to lead DMF radiology.

Candidates for the post must be registered medical practitioners and on, or eligible to join, the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Appointments Committee.

Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology – You will be required to provide an expert opinion in all aspects of Dental and maxillofacial Imaging and contribute to the delivery of Newcastle Dental Hospital (NDH) outpatient services in the above. The Trust provides a variety of specialist diagnostic services.
At present the NDH DMF imaging services include Radiology reporting on 2D (plain images) and 3D imaging mainly CBCT and occasionally MDCT of the maxillofacial region. These are ‘inbound’ from primary and secondary care referrers. Reporting covers MRI TMJ imaging, US Scanning of the head and neck with a particular focus on salivary gland disease. Conventional and MRI sialography are part of the more specialist work carried out. Referring disciplines include, Restorative dentistry, Orthodontics, Oral and maxillofacial surgery, Oral Surgery, Paediatric dentistry, Community dentistry, and Oral Medicine. ENT, Rheumatology and occasionally Oncology refer for opinions on DMF images.
The successful candidate will be part of a supportive Trust wide team of Head and Neck imagers, where appropriate collaboration is encouraged.
A successful candidate will not have to contribute to the main dept on-call service. There is the opportunity for reporting from home through negotiation at job planning.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical:
· Support clinical teams in delivering high quality patient care by contributing to the provision of the above. Geographically these are mainly from NUTH sites however occasionally from other hospitals in the NE and NW of England, who have service level agreements allowing them to access DMF Radiology support.
· Support clinical teams by providing expert opinion on all aspects of DMF Radiology.
· Contribute to the day-to-day running of a busy Oral Radiology dept services. This includes the justification of requests, supervision of scans and providing reports in a timely manner and updating the radiography team.
Administrative:
· Ensure appropriate management for patients in your care.
· Contribute to the efficient and effective running of the Oral radiology department.
· Support initiatives to improve service quality, patient pathways and manage waiting time targets within the Directorate and the Trust, as well as the wider Health community.
Research:
· The Trust welcomes and encourages research as a high profile activity that compliments the service provided, the emphasis being on studies that fall within the National Institute of Health Research Portfolio
· Time for research is included in the SPA allowance
Teaching:
· Participate in postgraduate DMF Radiology teaching
· Support the training of other healthcare professionals within the organisation
· Active involvement in the clinical supervision of Radiology Registrars in the department
Flexibility:
In line with the Trust’s core value of placing patients at the heart of everything we do, we are developing our service provision to be responsive to the needs of our patients. To meet those needs some staff groups will be increasingly asked to work a more flexible work pattern so that they can offer services in the evening or weekend. As a result any offer of employment to a consultant post will be subject to you agreeing to work a new more flexible pattern or working in the future if required, including evening and weekend work.

- Full GDC Registration
- Entry onto the GDC Specialist Register (within 6 months from the date of the AAC).
- Diplomate membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (DDMFR) or equivalent
