Would you like to help to improve outcomes for Children and Young People in Norfolk and Waveney? An exciting opportunity is now available for applications from individuals who would like be part of the Norfolk and Waveney Healthy Child Programme (0-19years), delivering the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP) and vision and hearing screening to school aged children in Norfolk.
We currently have a part time post available for 16 hours per week, on a term time only – 12 MONTH SECONDMENT. The post will cover the South Locality Monday 9-3pm, Tuesday 9-3pm and Thursday 9-2:30pm. The nature of the work means that the post holder may be required to travel across the county of Norfolk depending on service need.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Be responsible for organising provision of hearing and vision screening and monitoring of
height and weight for children of school age within the Norfolk area under the direction of
the Healthy Lifestyles/ NCMP Screening Co-ordinator
2. Undertake routine screening for hearing and vision within schools for children aged
approximately 5 years, according to the Trust Clinical Standards and participate in the
training and subsequent observations required.
3. Appropriately refer children to the Specialist Community Health Practitioner or other
registered nurse within the 5-19 team, in partnership with parents, where a problem has
been identified, according to the protocol.
4. Inform parents of the results of screening tests within an agreed time frame, and liaise
about any further testing or referral.
5. Undertake routine weight and height measurements of children in year R and 6 in line with
the National Childhood Measurement Programme.
6. Prioritise referrals for audiograms according to levels of need/urgency.
7. Undertake Pure Tone Audiograms for children referred into the service, according to
agreed standards and guidelines.

8. Undertake height and weight assessments for individual children, as referred by the 5-19
team.
9. Report and record any concerns regarding safeguarding children to the Healthy Lifestyles/
NCMP Screening Co-ordinator, Healthy Weight Pathway Lead, Team Leader/Safeguarding
Lead following the safeguarding concern pathway for screeners the same working day.
10. Within this role you will need to travel as an independent practitioner on a daily basis, across Norfolk which involves both rural and urban travel. The nature of our work does result in travel arrangements changing at short notice. Due to the large geography our service covers and the limitations of sufficient public transport to undertake this role you must hold a full and current driving licence and have access to your own transport.

Communication
1. Liaise with parents/carers on a regular basis to inform them of their child’s results, any
further testing and onward referral opportunities.
2. Effectively liaise with other members of the 5-19 team and discuss any concerns regarding
children.
3. Effectively liaise with school staff to arrange appointments in suitable accommodation.
4. Effective communication with schools to support 5-19 team profile in delivering services to
schools.
5. Effective communication with internal departments to ensure systems run smoothly.
Patient and Public Engagement
1. To contribute to ensuring that CCS responsibilities to engage and consult with patients and
the public are met in line with statutory requirements.
Budgetary Responsibility
1. To demonstrate responsible use of resources, with an awareness of budgetary restraints.
2. To ensure health monitoring equipment is operating to a high standard, maintained and
calibrated.
Human Resources
1. Maintaining own professional development and requirement to take part in appraisal and KSF process.
2. To delegate work to other members of the team related to their capabilities and
competencies, ensuring there is clarity regarding the feedback mechanisms.
Clinical and Practice Governance
1. Observe and maintain strict confidentiality with regards to any patient/family/staff/records and information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act.
2. Any data that is taken/shared as part of contact must be undertaken with regard to the Trust Information Governance and Information Security policies.
3. The post holder must adhere to the Trust risk assessment and risk management
processes.
4. The post holder must adhere to infection control policies and procedures.
5. Undertake mandatory training and any other training relevant to the role as required by Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust.
6. The post holder must participate in clinical and other audits as required.
7. Provide patients and their families /carers with information on standards they should expect from the team.
8. Participate in clinical supervision on a regular basis
9. The post holder is required to participate in relevant emergency preparedness process for their team.
